Special Nursing Opportunity Offered by the University of La Verne

The University of La Verne has reserved 20 spots for AltaMed RN nurses wanting to earn their BSN. Enrollment is happening now for its fall and spring 2022 online Bachelor of Nursing: RN to BSN degree program. Qualified AltaMed applicants are eligible for a special tuition rate and other benefits. The University is committing to a partnership award and scholarship award equaling $7,200.

AltaMed nurses may be eligible for tuition reimbursement, where AltaMed will pay the University directly once a nurse has been admitted into the program. The program is designed specifically for working registered nurses and offers multiple advantages over other RN-to-BSN programs. As part of the University of La Verne’s College of Health and Community Well-Being, these include:

  • A focus on teaching how health inequities and social determinants can have a negative impact on individual and population health in order to improve outcomes;
  • Teaching nurses how to improve health outcomes through improved cultural awareness, sensitivity and agility as our population increasingly grows in diversity;
  • A focus on teaching leadership skills and the vital role of informatics in nursing care;
  • Ability to use four electives toward a concentration of interest to the nursing students;
  • Ability to apply three of the courses in this degree program toward a Master in Public Health if there is a desire to advance to a master’s degree.

The online program includes 11 courses students can take in eight-week sessions, year-round around their work schedules. Start the application process or contact an admissions counselor at fgriscavage@laverne.edu.

AltaMed Art Collection Honors Hispanic Heritage Month

In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month 2022 (September 15 to October 15), the AltaMed Art Collection highlights "Welcome to Aztlan," an artwork by Los Angeles-born Mexican-American artist Arturo Urista. In this screen print, Urista maps Aztlan, a mythical homeland for Chicanas/os along the U.S. Mexican border. The artist highlights the states from both countries that make up this region, including California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon, Coahuila, Chihuahua, and Baja California, creating a color-blocked map that invites visitors to traverse this place that was once undivided. During Hispanic Heritage month, Urista’s art reminds us to embrace the ancestral roots of our land, the continuing history of migration, and social equality issues that we continue to fight for to this day.
