The Beehive

Issue 38

2021-2022

From The Principal's Desk

Dear Blossom Hill Families:

Our hive was buzzing last Friday as we were able to hold our first SWARM celebration in three years.   Great appreciation goes to teacher leader Ms. Wendy Ottinger, and the SWARM Parent Leaders: Francine Shore, Ling, Law, and Rachel Pandipati for coordinating this beloved BH tradition. With their meticulous planning and preparation we were able to include every K-5 student in a morning full of collaborative games and outdoor activities promoting a caring school climate. In addition, great gratitude goes to the following parent volunteers who made the event possible by teaming with teachers to host game stations:  Jess Arya, Meghan Bakota, Shelly Bamberger, Josh Bernstein, Trista Bernstein, Karrie Bertsch, Jennifer Borrelli, Jean Choi, Tova Davis, Tina Dibble, Qin Dong, Nicole Duke, Anita Engelman, Ting Engelman, Gloria Acerboni, Steve Fainer, Galit Goldenthal, Georgia Howard, Sam Huo, Kristin Hutchinson, Kathy Kwong, Sonya Margolis, Lisa Mitchel, Bonnie Pang, Kristi Pearce-Percy, Kerry Perkins, Melissa Rofer, Jennifer Shapiro, Will Schmidt, Lloyd Thyen, Libby Trevathan, Cindy Tucey, Vaneet Wadhawan, Irene Wong, Janice Yeh, Caroline Zamansky, and Sally Zeman. Their endless encouragement, along with our mascot Bumble’s enthusiasm, put a smile on every child’s face. I also want to thank our families who came out to enjoy the school-wide picnic after the SWARM. It was a beautiful day full of community spirit and goodwill.

The Blossom Hill staff and I would like to offer our heartfelt thanks for the lovely Staff Appreciation Luncheon provided by the Home & School Club today. Chairing the event were the amazing trio of Brenda Chiu, Elke Billingsley, and Suzanne Errecart.  The celebration was a pleasant respite during this very busy time of year for staff to revel in the good fortune of being a part of this generous community. With their combined talents, these clever ladies have been surprising the staff with special celebrations all year long. As they prepare to put a bow on their Staff Appreciation Committee work, we offer heartfelt gratitude for all the delights they have shown us. It is awe-inspiring how much thought, energy, and effort they have invested to make the staff feel cherished and appreciated. Great gratitude also goes to the many parents who donated their time and resources to make Teacher Appreciation Week such a success!

With great appreciation and a joyful heart,

Lisa Reynolds

Safety Improvements to Blossom Hill Road Coming Soon!

As parents, you know that crossing over Highway 17 on the Blossom Hill Road bridge is a bit daunting for our students as they travel to and from school. Fortunately, the Town of Los Gatos is proposing a separate bridge structure exclusively for bicycle and pedestrian use. This project, Highway 17 Bicycle and Pedestrian Overcrossing, also includes a protected pathway that stretches from Roberts Road East to Roberts Road West (see attached figure). We are excited about the improved safety conditions this represents for Fisher Middle School students! Learn more about this effort at www.losgatosca.gov/2556/Hwy-17-Bicycle-Pedestrian-Overcrossing.
