From The Principal's Desk
Dear Blossom Hill Families:

People Power is all the buzzzz at BH!

Next week, the Safe Routes to School committee and the Home & School Club are co-sponsoring Travel to School Safely Week and encouraging everyone to use People Power to get to and from school.  Students can walk, ride bikes, roll on scooters, or carpool.

During the week, you will have a chance to read and sign the Parent Driver Contract form which will help make the drive aisles and parking lots safer.  In addition, we will be sharing information about the upcoming rollout of the Honeybee Barcode program.

Hats off to Peter Binkley, parent of BH twins, for leading the Safe Routes to School program this year.  Peter is actively involved in our community encouraging healthy habits and safety for all.  Thank you, Peter!

Did you know that One Community LG, through the LGEF, funds our elementary PE teachers?  Our PE teachers interact with every student on every campus. In collaboration with the classroom teachers, PE teachers, Mr. Mee, Miss Miki, and Coach K, focus on teaching our students strategies for physical and personal growth by encouraging a positive attitude towards skill development. They also work on teamwork and controlled competitiveness as well as organizing exciting games to help our students develop their skills while having lots of fun. Ask your child to tell you about the fun activity they played this week in PE. To find out more about what your contributions to One Community LG will benefit, please visit onecommunitylg.org.

Walk and Roll to School Week is Coming!
Find traffic frustrating? Why not try walking, biking or scootering to school? If you drive to school, try carpooling or drive part way and finish your commute with a brisk walk. The walk is invigorating and great for your health and well being. All students who walk, bike or carpool to school on Wednesday, September 22 will be entered into a drawing to win bike helmets, water bottles, Jamba Juice cards and more!

The Blossom Hill Home & School Club and Safe Routes to School is excited to host our annual Walk, Bike and Carpool to school week September 20 - 24. During this week, you and your student will receive tips on how to travel to and from school in safe and courteous ways. We encourage all parents and drivers to sign our Drivers Contract and to sign their children up for our weekly Honeybee Barcode program by September 24. Check out your Safe Route to School here. We'll see you walking and rolling to school next week!

This program is made possible by your contributions
Bike Rodeos for 3rd and 4th Grades
Los Gatos -Monte Sereno Safe Routes to School will be hosting Bike Rodeos at each school site at the end of September. Bike Rodeos teach students important safety skills on a bike including rules of the road, signaling, and how to wear a helmet properly. Blossom Hill will be hosting bike rodeos for third graders on Friday, September 24 and fourth graders on Tuesday, September 28. All third and fourth graders should bring their helmets and bikes to school on their designated day. For safety purposes, only student who have helmets will be permitted to ride their bikes in the activities. Students who do not have bikes will still be included in the Bike Rodeo. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher or email [email protected].

Noon Duty Supervisors Needed
Are you looking for part time employment? Or do you know someone who is? Blossom Hill School is looking for individuals to work as Noon Duty Supervisors up to 4 days a week. This person will assist school staff in ensuring the safety and well-being of students during lunch time and mid day recess. People who are only available 2-3 days a week should also apply. More information can be found at Noon Duty Supervisors.
Crossing Guards Needed
The Town is looking to fill one permanent crossing guard position and also wants to hire a few people to be substitute guards to cover illness and planned vacations of regular crossing guards
On Your Honor Lending Library Open Weekdays
Help your student find their next great read in the Blossom Hill On Your Honor Lending Library! Open daily before, during and after school, the lending library is a free resource where students of all reading levels can borrow and donate books appropriate for elementary school students. The library operates on an "on your honor" system and is located in front of the office. Many thanks to Francine Shore and other Home & School Club volunteers for creating and maintaining the lending library.
Free Lunch Program Update
Thank you for your interest and participation in the universal meal program. This program is provided free of charge through Federal grants and does not require any signup. Since the beginning of the school year we have begun serving over 1800 meals per day. This is a new program for our staff and we have had some challenges securing supplies and meeting the published menus. We have been improving each week and expect, with your patience and participation, to move toward more scratch cooked, fresh ingredients.  The menu is updated each week.

Please feel free to email Terese McNamee at [email protected] if you have any questions or comments.

Measure B on November 2nd Ballot
Quality schools are at the heart of our town. For over 30 years Los Gatos and Monte Sereno students have relied on locally controlled funding. But the funding level has not increased in 20 years...and the current measure is about to expire. If not renewed, our schools will lose $2.7 million in funding each year requiring deep cuts, including layoffs of teaching staff.

Measure B will renew school funding at $335 per parcel, providing approximately $3.2 million in annual funding for local elementary and middle schools. Measure B would expire in 8 years. To learn more about Measure B and its impact, visit www.lgusd.org/renewalmeasure.
