2021-2022
From The Principal's Desk
Dear Blossom Hill Families:

I am thrilled to announce that Ms. Wendy Ottinger has been selected as Los Gatos Union School District’s 2021 Teacher of the Year. A Santa Clara County tradition for over 50 years, the Teacher Recognition Celebration is the oldest and largest celebration of teachers in California and the most prestigious local award given to classroom teachers.

Ms. Ottinger is a Master Teacher and her strengths and breadth of knowledge run wide and deep. Her passion for teaching is a guiding force in her ongoing quest to refine her practice to support each student’s social, emotional, and academic growth. Wendy is an expert at consistently planning and engaging students in a variety of learning experiences that meet their special needs and accommodates the different ways they learn. She is also extremely effective at using the classroom setting to provide opportunities for both independent and collaborative work.

In addition, Ms. Ottinger is deeply committed to her own learning and professional development and has served as a Teacher Leader; developing and guiding work customized to LGUSD where she collaborates with other educators to deconstruct prioritized common core state standards, plan instructional units and assessments, and analyze student work.

In all capacities, Ms. Ottinger’s students, colleagues, and parents hold her in high esteem, valuing her kind heart, thoughtful manner, and professional expertise to prepare students to thrive in a diverse and ever changing world. It is all these skills and talents, along with her caring nature, which makes Ms. Wendy Ottinger LGUSD’s Teacher of the Year.

Congratulations, Ms. Ottinger!

With joy,
Lisa Reynolds

*Please note:  If you contributed to One Community LG directly through your employer, we have not received that information yet as there is a delay in their processing of up to 60 days.  If your name is not on our list of donors, please complete the Payroll Deduction Form so that we know to expect your contribution and can properly thank you.
Did you know that One Community LG, through the LGEF, funds our elementary music teachers, Ana George, Alyson Ancheta, Aryn Krijnen, and Corey Miller?  Our music program introduces general music principals and theory as well as fosters a love of music in all our students.  The Blossom Hill Home & School provides the funds to Music Boosters to purchase the musical instruments used in grades K-4 and the music curriculum software, Quaver, used by all students.
  • Kindergarten students concentrate on music and movement.
  • First and second graders focus on sounds, counting, and singing.
  • Third grade students have the opportunity to learn the recorder.
  • Fourth graders become familiar with the ukulele.
  • Fifth graders are offered a choice of flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, violin, cello, voice or percussion.  This prepares our students for the many Middle School music options that are open to our students.  Music Boosters maintains the rental instruments available to fifth graders.
Ask your child to tell you about what they songs they practiced this week in their music class. To find out more about what your contributions to One Community LG will benefit, please visit onecommunitylg.org.
Kindergarteners practice keeping a steady beat with Mrs. George.
Mrs. Krijnen works with the fifth grade orchestra students.

Borrow a Chromebook or a Wi-Fi Hotspot
Do you have a student who needs access to a Chromebook or W-Fi at home? LGUSD has a limited number of Chromebooks and Wi-Fi hotspots available to loan for students who would otherwise lack connected devices and/or broadband connections sufficient to fully engage in learning at home. We want to ensure access is available, especially if a student needs to quarantine at home. If you would like to request a Chromebook or Wi-Fi hotspot, please complete the loaner request form.

Los Gatos Union School District Parcel Tax
Measure B on November 2nd Ballot
Quality schools are at the heart of our town. For over 30 years Los Gatos and Monte Sereno students have relied on locally controlled funding. But the funding level has not increased in 20 years...and the current measure is about to expire. If not renewed, our schools will lose $2.7 million in funding each year requiring deep cuts, including layoffs of teaching staff.

Measure B will renew school funding at $335 per parcel, providing approximately $3.2 million in annual funding for local elementary and middle schools. Measure B would expire in 8 years. To learn more about Measure B and its impact, visit www.lgusd.org/renewalmeasure.
Don't Forget - Fridays are BH Spirit Days!
We invite all students (and staff) to show their Blossom Hill spirit by wearing the favorite BH Spirit Wear each Friday. Don't have any Spirit Wear? Please visit our online store, Rokkitwear, for a great selection. Limited t-shirts and sweatshirts, as well as BH masks, will be on sale at (We accept credit cards, Apple Pay, and cash.)
Blossom Hill Vision Statement
