2021-2022
From The Principal's Desk
Dear Blossom Hil Families:

As we settle into the new school year and being together on campus, we are spending time to prepare and ensure staff and students are aware of safety procedures.

Over the past six weeks, the staff has had multiple professional development sessions with Joe Viramontez, retired Santa Clara County Fire Captain and founder of ICS4Schools to review the Incident Command Structure (ICS) and customize it to meet our school’s needs. In addition, we have been practicing both fire drills and earthquake drills. All drills are evaluated on execution time and adherence to protocol and every drill is logged and followed by a debriefing to ensure a cycle of continuous improvement. Next Wednesday morning, October 20th, all five LGUSD schools will be participating in a safety drill. Principals will be emailed the specifics of the scenario a few minutes before the drill begins. During the drill, we will utilize the Incident Command Structure and be in radio contact with district office personnel who in turn will be coordinating with the town’s Police and Fire Departments. Collaboration on such a comprehensive level highlights the importance of drilling in our learning community in order to be prepared and respond safely in a variety of situations. By practicing predetermined response actions together, we are enhancing our level of emergency preparedness.

The staff and I are communicating with students the importance of practicing what to do in case of an emergency in student-friendly language and highlighting the power it gives them to deal with a situation in a calm and thoughtful manner. I have also shared that we will be participating in a safety drill next Wednesday. You can help by making sure your child is dressed in layers that morning as I anticipate we will be outside in the chilled air for an extended period of time.

If you have questions, please feel free to call or email me.

In safety & education together,
Lisa Reynolds

Fall Conferences - November 1st-5th
You've got options!
Fall Conferences and minimum days are on the horizon during the week of November 1-5 in LGUSD. In order to best support students, parents, and support staff, we are looking forward to offering in-person and Zoom conferences. We realize that Zoom conferences allow greater flexibility for working parents to attend a conference and we are happy to support that option. We also realize the value of in-person meetings. Your child’s teacher will be reaching out during the window between 10/18-10/20 to arrange a meeting based on your preference.

Los Gatos Union School District Parcel Tax
Measure B on November 2nd Ballot
Quality schools are at the heart of our town. For over 30 years Los Gatos and Monte Sereno students have relied on locally controlled funding. But the funding level has not increased in 20 years...and the current measure is about to expire. If not renewed, our schools will lose $2.7 million in funding each year requiring deep cuts, including layoffs of teaching staff.

Measure B will renew school funding at $335 per parcel, providing approximately $3.2 million in annual funding for local elementary and middle schools. Measure B would expire in 8 years. To learn more about Measure B and its impact, visit www.lgusd.org/renewalmeasure.

Ballots are arriving to residents now. Please be an informed voter and vote on Measure B. It is the only item on the ballot.
Please watch the video below which describes the ways our Los Gatos schools receive funding and how these resources fall short.

Honeybee Barcode Scanning is Coming!
Don't forget to sign your student up for a Honeybee Barcode so they can enter into a weekly drawing for walking, biking or carpooling to school. You can sign your student up for their Honeybee backpack tag by signing the Blossom Hill Driver's Contract. Scanning will start by mid-October. Please email our Safe Routes to School lead, Peter Binkley, at [email protected] with any questions.
Honeybee barcode cards and Safe Routes 2 School are made possible by your contributions to the Blossom Hill Home & School Club through the One Community LG Campaign.
Borrow a Chromebook or a Wi-Fi Hotspot
Do you have a student who needs access to a Chromebook or W-Fi at home? LGUSD has a limited number of Chromebooks and Wi-Fi hotspots available to loan for students who would otherwise lack connected devices and/or broadband connections sufficient to fully engage in learning at home. We want to ensure access is available, especially if a student needs to quarantine at home. If you would like to request a Chromebook or Wi-Fi hotspot, please complete the loaner request form.
Take a Walk Through the Park
Come walk or stroll through Vasona Park with other Blossom Hill parents on October 22nd at 8:30am. Meet at the Oak Meadow carousel. Strollers and dogs are welcomed! Please contact Melissa Crow for more information.
Donate Supplies to Fun Fridays!
Fun Fridays is looking for yard games and craft supplies for weekly activities. Donate gently used, lightweight yard games or unused craft supplies. Unused craft supplies can be left in a box near the front office. Stickers, boards, papers and crayons in Fall colors are especially helpful for upcoming lunchtime craft projects. Please email Amy Gregor at [email protected] to arrange for pickup of yard games or with any questions.
