2021-2022
From The Principal's Desk
Dear Blossom Hill Families:

Please mark your calendar for our first School Site Council (SSC) meeting scheduled for Thursday, September 16th from 2:45-3:45 in the MPR.  The SSC’s primary responsibility is to ensure our school is continually improving by implementing state adopted curriculum and the best research-based instructional practices.  The focus of the Council’s work is to continue to strengthen our academic and social/emotional programs so all children may achieve to their fullest potential.  The SSC is responsible for the understanding, development, and implementation of the Single Plan for Student Achievement.  This plan is a record of the vision, goals, objectives, and strategies developed by our school community and should be understood by all stakeholders.

The SSC is composed of equal representation of two groups – parents/community members and school personnel.  Peer groups select their members and each term of office is staggered in two-year terms to ensure continuity.  Decisions made by the Council are made by majority vote.  If you are interested in serving as a parent member, or just want to learn more about the work the Council does, please contact me or join us at our first meeting.

The SSC will meet monthly throughout the school year.  All meetings will be held on Thursdays from 2:45 to 3:45. The meeting dates are:  9/16, 10/7, 11/18, 1/20, 3/31, 4/28, and 5/26.

I strongly encourage all interested parents, elected to a position or not, to attend any or all SSC meetings.  I welcome your input and highly value your perspective and participation.

In education together,
Lisa Reynolds
Principal, Blossom Hill School

Did you know that One Community LG, through the LGEF, funds our elementary counselors Linda Williams and Laura Macfarlane and our K-8 counselor Savannah Henry?  Our dedicated counseling staff proactively works with our students to provide the social/emotional support and education our children need to navigate through these challenging times. Students are supported with literature based social/emotional lessons in their classrooms as well as check ins with our counselors.  LGEF funded counselors support parents as well through Facilitated Conversations, such as “Confident Parents, Confident Kids," currently being offered to all families.  The Blossom Hill Home & School Club also supports our students through Project Cornerstone and community building activities such as Kinder, First Grade, and New Family Welcome Playdates as well as Family Movie Night and more.  To find out more about what your contributions to One Community LG will benefit, please visit onecommunitylg.org.
K-5 Counselor Linda Williams helps students brainstorm how they can help themselves and others.

Outdoor Learning Spaces -
Community Feedback Opportunity
Please join us on
Tuesday September 14, 2021 4:00 pm
at the Fisher MPR.

The construction of the N40 development and the associated developer fees has provided LGUSD with a unique opportunity to implement our outdoor improvement plan. Verde Design group will present the schematic designs for these improvements to our elementary school fields, outdoor classroom spaces and safety measures. Verde has developed these plans based on the priorities established by site staff, community members and district administration. The community feedback at this meeting will help inform the board when they finalize the designs within the approved facilities budget at the October 14th LGUSD Board Meeting.
Bike Rodeos for 3rd and 4th Grades
Los Gatos -Monte Sereno Safe Routes to School will be hosting Bike Rodeos at each school site at the end of September. Bike Rodeos teach students important safety skills on a bike including rules of the road, signaling, and how to wear a helmet properly. Blossom Hill will be hosting bike rodeos for third graders on Friday, September 24 and fourth graders on Tuesday, September 28. All third and fourth graders should bring their helmets and bikes to school on their designated day. If your student does not have a bike, they are welcome to bring a scooter if they have one. For safety purposes, only student who have helmets will be permitted to ride their bikes or scooters in the activities. Students who do not have bikes or scooters will still be included in the Bike Rodeo. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher or email [email protected].
On Your Honor Lending Library Open Weekdays
Help your student find their next great read in the Blossom Hill On Your Honor Lending Library! Open daily before, during and after school, the lending library is a free resource where students of all reading levels can borrow and donate books appropriate for elementary school students. The library operates on an "on your honor" system and is located in front of the office. Many thanks to Francine Shore and other Home & School Club volunteers for creating and maintaining the lending library.
Free Lunch Program Update
Thank you for your interest and participation in the universal meal program. This program is provided free of charge through Federal grants and does not require any signup. Since the beginning of the school year we have begun serving over 1800 meals per day. This is a new program for our staff and we have had some challenges securing supplies and meeting the published menus. We have been improving each week and expect, with your patience and participation, to move toward more scratch cooked, fresh ingredients.  The menu is updated each week.

Please feel free to email Terese McNamee at [email protected] if you have any questions or comments.

Los Gatos Union School District Parcel Tax
Measure B on November 2nd Ballot
Quality schools are at the heart of our town. For over 30 years Los Gatos and Monte Sereno students have relied on locally controlled funding. But the funding level has not increased in 20 years...and the current measure is about to expire. If not renewed, our schools will lose $2.7 million in funding each year requiring deep cuts, including layoffs of teaching staff.

Measure B will renew school funding at $335 per parcel, providing approximately $3.2 million in annual funding for local elementary and middle schools. Measure B would expire in 8 years. To learn more about Measure B and its impact, visit www.lgusd.org/renewalmeasure.
