2021-2022
From The Principal's Desk
Dear Blossom Hill Families:

Thank you to everyone who has been supporting the numerous events and activities we have had the good fortune to host recently.

Great gratitude goes to Wendy Riggs, Safe Routes to School Director for LGUSD, Peter Binkley, the SR2S Parent Lead at Blossom Hill, the Los Gatos Saratoga Police Department, our H&SC Board,  and the following parent volunteers for organizing and supporting the 3rd and 4th grade Bicycle Rodeos: Brandon Wong, Mark Harrison, Vaneet Wadhawan, Widya Junus, Susie Sommerstad, Georgia Howard, Ayshe Okuyocu, Lucia Thompson, Jane Fainer, Corol Soto, Lloyd Thyen, Michelle Avlas, Missy Bottoms, James Dellisanti, Libby Trevathan, Ellen Feichtmeir, Francine Shore, Julie Reynolds, Scott Yoo, Cindy Wang, Kristin Hutchinson, Michele Stefan, Ben Cortez, Widya Junus, Amy Gregor, Gloria Acerboni, Jacquie Thyen, Meghan Bakota, Carrie Endweiss, Leena Koivuniemi, Melissa, Crow, Kristin Hutchinson, and Karrie Bertsch.

Students had the opportunity to practice controlled riding, making right turns, and stopping.  Participants also learned about the importance of scanning before moving left, how to safely exit a driveway, and the best technique to push off smoothly from a full stop.  Additional content and skills practice covered how to yield to traffic that has the right of way and using eye contact and hand gestures to confirm who proceeds first.

These basic cycling skills are key to being a successful bike rider.  If we all practice and follow the rules of the road while wearing a properly fitted helmet, we can make a big difference in keeping ourselves and others safe.

Last Thursday, TK-5 students were treated to a night full of thinking challenges, brain busters, and fun hosted by Mathnasium, parent volunteer Francine Shore, Math Specialist Fran Mastroianni, Fisher volunteers, and our H&SC Board.  Both the primary and upper grade sessions included engaging math games to support number sense, math fact fluency, problem solving skills, spatial sense, measurement, estimation, and pattern seeking.

It is exciting to provide our students with these wonderful learning opportunities and we are fortunate to have such a dedicated and supportive parent community helping to make it happen.

In education together,
Lisa Reynolds
Principal, Blossom Hill School

Fall Conferences - November 1st-5th
You've got options!
Fall Conferences and minimum days are on the horizon during the week of November 1-5 in LGUSD. In order to best support students, parents, and support staff, we are looking forward to offering in-person and Zoom conferences. We realize that Zoom conferences allow greater flexibility for working parents to attend a conference and we are happy to support that option. We also realize the value of in-person meetings. Your child’s teacher will be reaching out during the window between 10/18-10/20 to arrange a meeting based on your preference.

Los Gatos Union School District Parcel Tax
Measure B on November 2nd Ballot
Quality schools are at the heart of our town. For over 30 years Los Gatos and Monte Sereno students have relied on locally controlled funding. But the funding level has not increased in 20 years...and the current measure is about to expire. If not renewed, our schools will lose $2.7 million in funding each year requiring deep cuts, including layoffs of teaching staff.

Measure B will renew school funding at $335 per parcel, providing approximately $3.2 million in annual funding for local elementary and middle schools. Measure B would expire in 8 years. To learn more about Measure B and its impact, visit www.lgusd.org/renewalmeasure.

Ballots are arriving to residents now. Please be an informed voter and vote on Measure B. It is the only item on the ballot.
Please watch the video below which describes the ways our Los Gatos schools receive funding and how these resources fall short.

*Please note:  If you contributed to One Community LG directly through your employer, we have not received that information yet as there is a delay in their processing of up to 60 days.  If your name is not on our list of donors, please complete the Payroll Deduction Form so that we know to expect your contribution and can properly thank you.
Don't forget to turn in your volunteer forms!
Calling all parent volunteers! Please be sure to turn in your Covid vaccination and TB risk assessment forms before volunteering on campus. All forms must be uploaded to this google form. Please do not walk your forms into the office. Thank you!
"Hive" Five for Virtual Math Night
Hive five" and many thanks to Francine Shore, LGUSD Math Specialist Fran Mastroianni and the team at Mathnasium Campbell/Los Gatos for a fantastic math night last week! The students enjoyed playing with numbers and having fun together. Many thanks to our adult "Zoom Room" chaperones, including: Kristin Hutchinson, Smita Gupta, Ufuk Okuyucu, "Mahesh" Raju Subramanian, Abhijit Ghadge, Melissa Crow, Vaneet Wadhawan, and Meng Luo. We couldn't have done it without you!
Honeybee Barcode Scanning is Coming!
Don't forget to sign your student up for a Honeybee Barcode so they can enter into a weekly drawing for walking, biking or carpooling to school. You can sign your student up for their Honeybee backpack tag by signing the Blossom Hill Driver's Contract. Scanning will start by mid-October. Please email our Safe Routes to School lead, Peter Binkley, at [email protected] with any questions.
Honeybee barcode cards and Safe Routes 2 School are made possible by your contributions to the Blossom Hill Home & School Club through the One Community LG Campaign.
Borrow a Chromebook or a Wi-Fi Hotspot
Do you have a student who needs access to a Chromebook or W-Fi at home? LGUSD has a limited number of Chromebooks and Wi-Fi hotspots available to loan for students who would otherwise lack connected devices and/or broadband connections sufficient to fully engage in learning at home. We want to ensure access is available, especially if a student needs to quarantine at home. If you would like to request a Chromebook or Wi-Fi hotspot, please complete the loaner request form.
Take a Walk Through the Park
Come walk or stroll through Vasona Park with other Blossom Hill parents on October 22nd at 8:30am. Meet at the Oak Meadow carousel. Strollers and dogs are welcomed! Please contact Melissa Crow for more information.
Donate Supplies to Fun Fridays!
Fun Fridays is looking for yard games and craft supplies for weekly activities. Donate gently used, lightweight yard games or unused craft supplies. Unused craft supplies can be left in a box near the front office. Stickers, boards, papers and crayons in Fall colors are especially helpful for upcoming lunchtime craft projects. Please email Amy Gregor at [email protected] to arrange for pickup of yard games or with any questions.
Halloween Costume Reminder
Halloween will be here before we know it. We are planning to resume our traditional Halloween Parade in a modified format. (Stay tuned for more information in the next couple of Beehives.) Please remember when purchasing costumes that inflatable costumes are not allowed at school. Thank you for your understanding.
Community Sponsor Spotlight
The Home & School would like to thank this week's Spotlight Community Sponsor, Hall & Burnett Orthodontics. We are greatly appreciative of Hall & Burnett's continued support of our community and for being a lead sponsor of the One Community LG Campaign. If you would like to become a Community Sponsor, please contact Melissa Crow at [email protected].
