2021-2022

From The Principal's Desk

Dear Blossom Hill Families:

Drum roll please..... This year's yearbook cover winner is fifth grader, Blythe G., based on the results of our online voting. Thank you to every student who submitted yearbook covers. We received so many gorgeous covers and all of our finalists will be showcased in the yearbook.  All the yearbook cover submissions can be seen in the windows of the Blossom Hill library.

A GIGANTIC thank you goes to Mrs. Ting Engelman, Mrs. Brenda Chiu, and Mrs. Meagan Stevens for putting such a beautiful yearbook together and to Mrs. Kathy Kwong for taking so many awesome pictures of students and staff. It is a true treasure and will spread joy throughout our learning community for all who travel down memory lane.

Kindness Grams and Knots of Kindness

IMG_6165.jpeg

During the month of May, Mr. Joanides, also known as "Mr. Kindness," led the Blossom Hill Honeybees in two different kindness activities. Jack S., Michael P., and Aditi A. from Mr. Joanides' class, as well as Brooke P. from Mr. Bolin's class, supervised a Kindness Gram station. They set up a table by the 3rd grade classrooms with a big sign and a Kindness Grams mailbox. These students delivered sets of Kindness Grams to all the classrooms on campus for kids to write a kind message to friends, siblings, teachers, and staff. When finished writing, students were invited to drop their grams into the mailbox at lunch. Extra Kindness Grams were available at the table, in case kids wanted to spread even more joy. Mr. Jo's students then were in charge of dividing up the grams by classes and delivering them periodically over the course of the week. The hope is that many grams are passed throughout campus...spreading kindness, appreciation, and love.

The second kindness activity led by Mr. Kindness was the Knots of Kindness Challenge. When students displayed an act of kindness for someone, they were invited to tie one color ribbon to a string hung in their classroom. When they received an act of kindness, they tied a different colored ribbon to their classroom string. Our classrooms are filled with many knots of kindness showing how we can both give and receive kindness. Mr. Jo's class has so many knots of kindness that they formed a grand mustache of kindness for Mr. Jo.

Kudos for Christy Kersten

Please take a moment to say "Thank You" to our very own Christy Kersten who has led the Pottery Program at Blossom Hill for many years as a volunteer. She has given so much of her time and talent to our kiddos, teaching them about creativity through hand made sculpture, inviting them to use their imaginations with color and texture, and encouraging them to explore their individuality with design and form. Our Pottery Program would not exist without her dedication and leadership and we can’t thank her enough for her “Bee-ing Amazing”!

Please take, and upload, a photo of your child with their favorite pottery projects so that we can show Mrs. Kersten the joy her efforts have brought to the lives of our school community.  The Kudoboard can be accessed through this link.

Summer Construction Projects

Just after school ends, our schools will be undergoing construction projects to enhance the outdoor classroom spaces and complete deferred maintenance projects.

The following work is scheduled at various sites for this summer:

  • Solar Installations at all five sites
  • Outdoor classroom improvements at all elementary sites including: grass, turf, concrete, seating, planting, trees removed, trees pruned and replanted, resilient surfaces installed
  • Painting
  • Asphalt repairs and resealing
  • Playground improvements
  • Electrical improvements

The major construction is anticipated to be completed by mid August. In addition, sites with special projects will require the work to be finished through the fall. We are very excited to begin these projects and will look forward to sharing photos and progress throughout the summer.

Safety Improvements to Blossom Hill Road Coming Soon!

As parents, you know that crossing over Highway 17 on the Blossom Hill Road bridge is a bit daunting for our students as they travel to and from school. Fortunately, the Town of Los Gatos is proposing a separate bridge structure exclusively for bicycle and pedestrian use. This project, Highway 17 Bicycle and Pedestrian Overcrossing, also includes a protected pathway that stretches from Roberts Road East to Roberts Road West (see attached figure). We are excited about the improved safety conditions this represents for Fisher Middle School students! Learn more about this effort at www.losgatosca.gov/2556/Hwy-17-Bicycle-Pedestrian-Overcrossing.
