Sweet Dreams
What do you dream of every day? What is something you have always wanted? For many of our Dreamers, the answer is simply, a bed. So many youth in our community dream of their own bed, a new bed, or a bed without bugs. For 8 special kids this summer, those dreams came true. With the generous help from
Mattress Firm,
this summer became the summer of bedroom makeovers. The pandemic may be keeping our kids from VIP event experiences, but it won't keep them from having the comforts of home that no one should go without.

The M siblings are the kindest 8 and 9-year-olds you could ever meet. They tragically lost their brother last year and have been grieving ever since. They received full bedroom makeovers with freshly painted rooms, dressers, beds, and everything they need to decorate their rooms in their own style. They also received a shopping spree and great seats to a future WWE match.

The J siblings, ages 7 and 9, are both kind, smart, outgoing, and such caring kids. Their family struggled with homelessness and the sudden loss of their uncle. With the help of Volunteer Dream Shopper Suzanne Singerman, they both received full rooms of decorations with their own new beds to make more room makeover dreams a reality. They also received pet fish, new bikes and are looking forward to a Pioneer WaterLand Experience.

The C siblings, ages 3, 11, and twin 16 year olds, are one of the strongest, most resilient families out there. Their mother was tragically killed and their lives were suddenly uprooted. They have been taken in by their grandmother who is already on a fixed income. From bedroom makeovers, to new bikes and a weekend Waterpark experience, some joyful memory making and the comforts of home can be had again.

Our Dream Coordinators (DC's) are such a huge part of our mission that I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce them to you. We partner with Case Western Reserve Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences Masters of Social Work program, Cleveland State University School of Social Work and The Cleveland Hillel Summer Internship Program to offer learning experiences for students who are seeking a career in social work or a related field as well as for communications and marketing students. Our DC interns work directly with our nominating providers and Dreamer Families to put together a customized, dream experience for the dreamer that will impact their lives in a positive way. Our communications intern assists with digital marketing, social media and outreach. Check out some of these rising stars below and hear from them directly about their experiences working at BID.

Through our work in social justice, we witness and work to buffer the prejudice, inequality and systemic racism that permeates so much of American life and has unequivocally created a collective trauma in our communities.
In light of the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and countless others, we at Believe in Dreams cannot stay silent. We stand in solidarity with those who are outraged, as we are outraged. We condemn the ongoing disregard for human life as well as the inequitable administration of justice that our communities of color continue to endure.
Believe in Dreams supports our grieving community and we grieve with you.
