More Than Filling a Gap: Thank You, Sandy!
Last fall, when we faced a significant need in our care ministry, Sandy Saunders graciously stepped in to help fill the gap. Of course, he did far more than fill a role—he made us better.
Time and again, Sandy demonstrated a remarkable ability to step into a situation, assess what was needed, and leave things stronger than he found them. His wisdom, insight, servant-hearted leadership, and steady presence have been a tremendous gift to our church and to me personally.
When Tim Jackson joined our team as Associate Pastor for Discipleship and Care, Sandy could have easily stepped away, having fulfilled his initial commitment. Instead, he chose to remain involved, helping Tim become fully integrated into both his new role and our church family. That investment will make a lasting difference.
Tim and I have commented that we feel a bit like Elisha, who asked Elijah for a double portion of his spirit. We would gladly welcome Sandy’s blessing and influence in that way. His example of faithful service, thoughtful leadership, and genuine care for people has deeply impacted both of us.
Personally, I am grateful not only for Sandy’s service but also for his friendship. He has challenged me, encouraged me, and repeatedly shown me what it looks like to serve others with humility and excellence.
Although Sandy’s formal role has come to an end, his love for us has not. I understand he will be helping with Vacation Bible School later this month, which comes as no surprise to anyone who knows him.
The next time you see Sandy, I hope you’ll take a moment to thank him for his faithful service, for the many ways he strengthened our care ministry, and for helping Tim become established in his new role. I already miss seeing Sandy daily, but as always, I look forward to our next conversation and the next opportunity to spend time together. My guess is that many of you do, too.
Looking forward,
Blake
