Snyder in My Heart

What can you say after 21+ years? “Thank you” isn’t enough, but it’s what comes to my heart first when I think about my years at Snyder. I’ll cherish the memories of the recognition in the worship services this past Sunday and your presence and kind comments at the reception that afternoon.

I’ve worshiped, served and fellowshipped with you and many others who have gone before us in 1000+ worship services; 500+ Wednesday night dinners, 150+ Deacon’s meetings, 250+ committee meetings, dozens of weddings, memorial and graveside services, 23 Singing Christmas Trees, 20+ Operation Inasmuch Blitz days, 4 national or international mission trips, 20+ grounds workdays. I’ve visited and prayed with dozens and dozens of you in the hospital rooms and rehab centers. We’ve had countless phone, hallway, parking lot, text, and email conversations; some casual, some serious. And that’s why, on the Sunday before last, when I stood in the pulpit to pray for what I realized would probably be the last time as a minister at Snyder, my heart was overflowing; most of your faces have a name and story in my heart to go with them.

It’s been a privilege to work with more than 50 Ministers, Interim Ministers, Area Directors, Ministry Assistants, Custodians, and Kitchen Staff over these years. Together, we led our church through 2 pastoral changes, 2 recessions, 2 or 3 hurricanes, a flood or two, some hailstorms, and a pandemic. We’re all human, and though we did our best, we didn’t do everything perfectly. But through it all was the presence of that unique and precious thing that makes Snyder “Snyder”: the “sweet, sweet spirit” that kept our hearts united in loving God, sharing Christ, and serving others. It’s who we are, it’s what we do, we do it well, and we do it inter-generationally. I pray we’ll continue to nurture it with our prayers, faithful service, and giving, and pass it on to the next generation and those outside of Snyder who haven’t experienced it yet.

The time came when I, admittedly an old guy with values of “boomer” and earlier generations, realized it was time to hand things off to someone younger. In next week’s Bell, you’ll read the announcement and more details about the person who will become the Executive Minister. He will have my support, and I trust he will have yours as well.

Respectfully,

Geron Gambill

Hey Kids and Families!

Come cool off and have some fun at our Open Gym! This open gym night is for 1st–5th graders, with plenty of games, crafts, and fun activities to keep everyone moving and smiling.

And parents, you can be part of the fun too! The choice is yours: either drop off your kiddo or stay and play. No dinner will be served, but we’ll have some sweet treats to enjoy.

Be sure to invite your friends — we can’t wait to see you there!

Snyder Students

18 Students and 5 leaders are at Crowders Ridge for a week of War WOON (Worth, Others' Dating, Others' Relationships, and being a New Creation). They'll be exploring their worth, learning about healthy relationships, extending Forgiveness, and embracing life as a New Creation in Christ. Please pray for meaningful spiritual growth, strong connections, and a powerful encounter with Jesus for each student and leader.

Back to School Bash at Mt. Sinai Homes

Sunday, August 17

6:30 - 8pm

Join us on Sunday, August 17, at Mt. Sinai Homes from 6:30–8pm as we host a Back to School Bash for our partner neighborhood, Mt. Sinai Homes. We'll have ice cream and slushies, fun bouncy houses, and slides for the kids, and we'll be handing out backpacks and school supplies to help them start the school year strong.

This event supports children from Margaret Willis School, one of our key ministry partners, and we’d love your help! Volunteers are needed to assist with desserts, supervise activities, and distribute school supplies.

Click the button to volunteer or email susier@snydermbc.com.

Wednesday, August 27 | 5 - 7pm | Gathering Hall

As we kick off a new ministry year, we’re bringing together every opportunity to get plugged in! From small groups, Sunday School classes, kids and student ministries, choirs, serve teams, and more, it’s a one-stop night to explore how you can grow in your relationship with God, connect with others, and serve with purpose.

This event is for everyone—even if you’re already plugged in! It will be a time of fellowship, connecting with others, and sharing dinner together as we launch into the fall. Come find your people and fuel your purpose as we spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

If you have a group that meets regularly (bible study, sports, or hobby) that you would like to open to others at Snyder, please fill out the form at snydermbc.com/connect. Please complete this by Friday, August 15.
