Memorial Day Parade
Our application to participate in this year’s Memorial Day parade has been accepted. Here are the details:
The City of Elyria and the Council of Veterans will host the Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade on Monday, May 26th. This annual event pays tribute to the brave individuals who have selflessly sacrificed their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
A parade check-in/information table will be located in front of City Hall at 8 A.M.
We will be in Division 4, which is reserved for veterans’ groups, military personnel, and the family of fallen military members.
- Children may ride their bikes.
- Children in the parade must be accompanied by their parents.
- Bring a bag of candy to throw during the parade.
Division 4 Information & Staging: Forms on Court Street between Broad Street and Second Street. We recommend parking near location here. Remember to coordinate transportation back to your vehicle.
Parade Route:
- Begins at Court Street and Broad Street
- East on Broad Street to Washington Avenue
- North on Washington Avenue to Harrison Street
- East on Harrison to Glenwood Street
- Ends at Harrison & Glenwood
Pre-Parade Ceremony: Please note that participating in the parade does not mean you have to miss the pre-parade ceremony. We encourage you to come early, park near your division, and join us at 9A.M. in Ely Square for a pre-parade opening ceremony. A detailed agenda is included below:
9:00 PROGRAM
- Welcome by Commander David Root
- National Anthem Prayer (violin) by AmiRay Auguilar Wetherbee
- Speech by Robbie Brown
- Presentation of Wreaths by Veteran Organizations
- Rifle Volley by VFW Post 1079 Honor Guard
- Taps by VFW Post 1079 Honor Guard
- Remarks by Mayor Kevin Brubaker
- Turn on the Fountain by Mayor Kevin Brubaker
Post-Parade Activities:

At the conclusion of the parade, the American Legion will offer refreshments until 1 P.M. at Post 12 (393 Ohio Street, Elyria, OH 44035)
Important Reminders:
- Absolutely no political campaigning of any sort.
- Division 1 will not be passing out candy
- There can be no practicing of instruments after the Program starts at 9am
- If marching in parade, please remember to arrange for transportation from the parade end point back to your starting point.
