From ASMS Student to ASMS Math Instructor
Dear ASMS Community,

Oh wow, how is it April already? It seems like just yesterday that I started working full-time here at ASMS, but in reality… August was months ago! Coming home (shoutout to c/o ’06!) to teach here has been a delight. I adore that I can share “the experience” of ASMS as an alumna turned teacher.

I’ve had the pleasure of teaching most of the incoming students in either algebra, trigonometry, or in advanced geometry. Getting to know the incoming class has been charming, and seeing some returning students in integral this term has been a joy. I hope that I’ve helped all my students build good study habits and time management skills. We’ve shared doughnuts, protein shakes, and devoured some pi(e), but what I really want to bestow on my students is my passion for mathematics (and snacks).

ASMS Alumna's STEM Podcast Ranked a "Podcast to Watch"
ASMS alumna Dr. Sabrina Walthall (Class of 1993) is the founder of the STEM Lab podcast. ASMS featured one of her podcast episodes for Women’s History Month with women from the ASMS Class of 1993. Now, that podcast has now been ranked in its niche as a podcast to watch in 2022! It's also ranked No. 13 among the Best 45 Women in STEM Podcasts. Dr. Walthall's University (Mercer University) recently published an article about the podcast and her passion to highlight women from marginalized groups in STEM. Click the button to read it!

In Mr. Dolbeare's General Chemistry class, students extracted a colorful pH indicator from red cabbage. Then each group made a stock solution of a wide variety of pH levels to test their new produced indicator. The colors correlated to different pH's: Red colors for more acidic and blue greens for more basic. Even though the lab smelled of boiled cabbage, the wide spectrum of colors made it all worthwhile.
