The Fourth of July always feels like a turning point.
Summer’s in full swing, but if you’re watching the calendar, we all know: we’re halfway through. That said—there’s still a lot of summer left to race, train, and make it count.
July brings some of the best racing of the season. Lake Michigan mornings. Long relay weekends. Small-town energy. From triathlons to team challenges to gravel adventures, Michigan delivers in a big way this month—and we’ll be out there with you, catching all of it.
And if you're locking into fall marathon training, this is the time it starts to get real. The miles stretch out, the rhythm kicks in, and those quiet early runs start to mean something.
Check out what’s coming up. Say hi when you see us. And remember—there’s still plenty of summer left to do something great.
See you out there,

SUMMER IS HERE!
Ed Kornoelje DO
Sports Medicine|University of Michigan Health-West
After a cool spring things are really heating up! In order to stay safe, keep the
following in mind:
1. Stay hydrated. Keep water nearby and drink it—be hydrated going into the
run!
2. Seek shade! Getting out of direct sunlight will help cool you down.
3. Wear light clothing—color and weight. Wicking fabrics work great—save
cotton for when you are done!
4. Slow down and take breaks. If you feel yourself overheating stop what you
are doing and rest.
5. Get ice or a cold towel and put it on your head and neck. Dump water on
your head or find a sprinkler.
6. Did I say hydrate? I did—saying it again!
NSAID’s such as Motrin, Aleve and ibuprofen are run through the kidneys—avoid these types of meds during the heat—dehydration can make this worse.
If you slow down, stay cool, and listen to your body you can exercise safely in the heat. If you are running in a race ice, water, and medical coverage will be available, but only you know how you are feeling—be smart!

LaPorte Triathlon
Sat July 12, 2025
LaPorte, Indiana
The LaPorte triathlon is now part of the Tris4Health events family. We cannot thank the Northwest Indiana Triathletes enough for trusting us to continue this event, hopefully for another 45 years. So, what's going to change now that Tris4Health is involved? Rest assured, not much. You'll see a few small things, like adding an aquabike category and removing the duathlon relays. These changes are designed to enhance the athlete experience and appeal to a broader group of athletes. While they hate to see the duathlon relays go, they have found they appeal to a tiny segment of multisport athletes. In contrast, adding the aquabike category helps bring new people to the sport, and the duathlon relay athletes can still participate by signing up in our triathlon relay category.
If you can't find a swimmer (it's always a swimmer), reach out and they will be happy to play Relay Team Tinder for you! The goal is to take an already outstanding event and elevate it slightly with increased branding and awareness, reaching into nearby states such as Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana. *This race will be capped at 300 participants*
