TOPIC:  
The purpose of this course is to provide participants with an understanding of the various aspects and issues relating to officer-involved shootings. An effective officer-involved shooting investigation requires a coordinated effort between criminal and administrative investigators, conducted without bias and in accordance with professional practices, agency policy, and current laws.
 
This classdelivers useful information for evaluating existing law and agency policies and procedures, as well as for defining the role of the agency criminal investigators, the internal affairs investigator, and police unions in the process.

INSTRUCTOR:  
 
Mr. Courtemanche has been a practicing attorney since 1988, and has over 20 years of experience in the law enforcement field on the state and local level. He spent approximately 15 years as Assistant City Attorney/Police Legal Advisor to the Tallahassee Police Department, 6 years as an Assistant General Counsel with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and 4 years as a felony trial prosecutor for the State Attorney's Office. Mr. Courtemanche has taught Internal Affairs and Officer Involved Shootings for over 15 years for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and for Training Force USA.
