The Big Easy smolders with Tennessee Williams intensity
The beautifully restored historic Dock Street Theatre on Church Street is the perfect setting for Charleston Ballet Theatre's The Big Easy, a collection of three sizzling New Orleans based ballets inspired by the works of playwright Tennessee Williams.
Guest Choreographer
Daniel Pelzig (Nine Lives) returns to Charleston with his new ballet Summer and Smoke focused on the smoldering friction and seduction that blossoms between a high-strung minister's daughter (CBT newcomer Ezlimar Dortolina) and a handsome young medical student (CBT vet Alexander Collen) in 1916 Glorious Hill, Mississippi.
Guest Choreographer and famed dance photographer Tony Powell will debut his Soothe My Lonely Heart, based on the famous Williams play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and the program will end with a revival of CBT Resident Choreographer Jill Eathorne Bahr's A Streetcar Named Desire (featuring Jennifer Muller dancing the role of Blanche DuBois), which made its world premiere in Charleston in 2004.
