Chief for Dept. of Community Supervision,
Kim Persley
Kim Persley is the Coordinating Chief of the Dept. of Community Supervision. Kim serves as Chief for the Dougherty County Judicial Circuit.
Good afternoon, it is an exciting time for me to stand before each of you. I am so thankful for the invite and the consideration and opportunity to be able to share with you about my agency and what we do for the community. Mr. Roberts (Exchange Member of Albany) did mention that in 1992. He gave me my first job with the state of Georgia. I would tell each of you that,
I am who I am and, I honestly owe my career path to Jeff Roberts. He gave me my first start in my career.
The Georgia Department of Community Supervision is an executive branch agency of the U.S. state of Georgia. DCS is headquartered in the James H "Sloppy" Floyd Veterans Memorial Building with additional field offices throughout the state. DCS is tasked with: the supervision and reentry services of felony probationers and parolees; the oversight of adult misdemeanor probation providers; and, provides administrative support to the Georgia Commission on Family Violence.
Statewide we have over, 180,000 people under probation or parole supervision. The Dougherty County Circuit. We currently have approximately 2,200 people in Albany Dougherty County. Our tasked is basically monitoring those individuals that have been placed on probation by our Judiciary. Also, we also have the responsibility of monitoring those that have been placed on parole. DCS focuses our efforts on person-centered supervision, so we get a better person returning to the community.
When a person is under supervision of probation or parole. It’s our responsibility is to make sure that we serve as an integral part of the criminal justice system to effectively and efficiently monitor those conditions that have been imposed, and then probe provide successful outcome. Our agency will continue to do everything that we possibly can as far as providing the services that are needed.
We are tasked with what we call the effective supervision. That means that if a person is placed on probation or parole, we do an assessment of that individual based upon their criminal background, their education, their employment, and the system give us a raw score. If they're most likely to reoffend those are considered a high-risk. We are required that we go out to make an interaction with them at their place of residence, or wherever, deem necessary.  We're making sure that they're in compliance with their conditions and of Probation and Parole. In addition to that. We also have those offenders that we believe that are less likely to commit. Probably made a mistake along the way got placed on probation and they do not necessarily require that we go out to make an interaction with them. They can actually just call in and report. In addition to that. We also have those other placed on Specialized probation. Specialized probation are those supervisees that are on for a sex offender? We have our specialized. We have people that has been placed for mental health counseling. We have a particular mental health office, counselor that goes out and check on those supervisees as well.
We are held accountable by the court system, that deals with Parole & Probation Supervision for individuals that have been placed in Dept. of Community Supervision.
Please if you know anyone wanting to be an officer. Send them my way, we are Hiring. Also, if you would like to participate in a RIDE-A-LONG Contact DCS: Kimberly Persley Phone: (229) 430-4182
Thanks for allowing me to inform your organization about the Dept. of Community Supervision.
