Dear Saint Families and Friends:

“The beginning is the most important part of the work.”

-Plato

Greetings from Berks Catholic! It’s time to begin again! This is my 37th year beginning again as a teacher. I have loved every single one of the beginnings. While I don’t think I could pick my favorite, I know that being at Berks Catholic certainly makes the beginning special for me. And, I hope for you and your Saints. As your Saints begin again, this is the perfect opportunity for them to set goals, work hard and strive to achieve those goals. There are many caring people here at BC who are ready to help your Saints be successful. As we all begin again, thank you for choosing us to be your partners in education! We understand that this is a sacred trust, and we will work hard to meet your expectations and never let you down. Happy new school year!

It’s a great day to be a Saint!

Kudos

Congratulations to our Golf Team on their first victory of the season in a quad match earlier this month against Daniel Boone, Conrad Weiser and Twin Valley.

Congratulations to Theology teacher, Mrs. Brianna Durkee, and her husband, Andrew, on the birth of their first child, Leo Ignatius Durkee, who was born on Sunday, July 27th. Mother and baby are doing well. We wish Mrs. Durkee well while she is on maternity leave for the First Academic Quarter.

Thank you to the Fall athletes and their families who joined us on Tuesday evening for the Fall Sports Media Day. It was a nice community building event to start off the school year.

Thank you to all our Freshmen and new upperclassman families who joined us Wednesday evening for the Family Prayer Service. It was so good to be with you and start off the school year in prayer.

What's Happening

Start of the School Year

One last reminder that school opens on Monday, August 25th when we welcome our Freshmen for an Orientation Day. We will begin at 7:50 a.m. and dismissal will be at 11:30 a.m. On Tuesday, August 26th all students report to school at regular time with a 2:30 p.m. dismissal. School pictures will take place that day.

Opening School Mass

Our opening School Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 28th at 9:30 a.m. in the Franco-Post Auditorium. As always, parents and guardians are welcome to attend Mass at school. If you plan to join us, please sign in at the Main Office before coming to the auditorium.

Picture Day

School photos will take place on Tuesday, August 26th. Students should come to school in complete uniform, neatly dressed and groomed. Families received the picture order form in the summer mailing. You may also see the attached link for more information.

Senior Sunrise

The Class of 2026 continues last year’s tradition of Senior Sunrise. Seniors are invited to join their classmates on Friday morning, August 29th at 6:00 a.m. on the football field. Bring your coffee! All Seniors may dress down for school on this day.

Parking Lot Drop Off / Pick-Up

Parents and guardians are reminded when dropping off and picking up your Saints in front of school you should do so in the outer drive. Please do not use the inner drive that is closest to the school as it is reserved for the school buses. Also, you are reminded not to turn illegally into the parking lot from Parkside Drive across from the Greek Church. Those exits are one-way going out. Thank you for helping to keep our Saints safe.

Attendance Notification

If your child will be late for school in the morning or is absent for the day, please contact the Main Office as soon as possible by calling 610-374-8361 and then press #2. Absent students should bring in an absence note when they return to school. The Main Office will call parents whose child is marked absent in the morning with no call to school.

If your child needs an early dismissal, please send a note to the Main Office for the early dismissal with the time and reason. Thank you for helping us with these important daily attendance tasks.

Asbestos Notice

In compliance with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), an inspection for asbestos containing building materials was performed at each of our schools in the Diocese of Allentown, including Berks Catholic. A copy of the inspection report is on file in the Main Office for your review any time during normal school hours. In the event you have questions or concerns, you may contact Mr. Petruzzelli or the diocesan asbestos coordinator, Mr. David Wong.

Canvas Reminder for Saints

All Saint Canvas users must log into Canvas with their school email address moving forward. If Saints have forgotten their email password, they should enter a support ticket at support@berkscatholic.freshdesk.com.

Dress Code

Please help us with dress code at home. Families are reminded that the dress code is in effect on Day 1 of the school year. Please make sure your Saints are ready and looking good. You can refer to the letter sent home this summer by Mr. Jones, Dean of Students. Hair, piercings, etc. should be in accord with dress code regulations on the first day. We don’t want this to be a distraction or struggle as we start the new school year. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

Bus Transportation

According to Pennsylvania law, non-public school students are entitled to transportation to non-public schools by their public school district. ACT 372 forms were mailed home to all BC families in April. Bus forms that have been submitted were forwarded to the public school district in which your student resides. Your public school district will be sending you your students’ busing information (if they haven’t already). If you do not receive your busing information by next week, please contact your public school Transportation Department. A list of school Transportation Departments is available on the BC website under Campus Info. Click on the Forms tab and scroll down to Transportation. To date, if your student’s ACT 372 form has NOT been returned to BC, the public school district cannot guarantee transportation for the first week of school. If you have not returned your ACT 372 form and require transportation for your student, please contact your public school district immediately for assistance. If you have any questions, please contact Transportation Coordinator, Mrs. Jones, at sjones@berkscatholic.org.

The Saints Locker will also be open. Meet and talk with the Administrative Team during your lunch periods in the cafeteria. We hope to see you there.
