October 24, 2025 Volume 3 - Issue 11

Dear Saint Families and Friends:

“Happiness is a choice that requires effort at times.”

-Aeschylus

Greetings from Berks Catholic! Did you ever think of things that make you happy? Just small, maybe run-of-mill experiences, distractions or events that bring a smile to your face? God blesses us each day at Berks Catholic to have many of those “happy moments.” They aren’t earth shattering but they are surely significant to me. Let me share a few examples.

As you may know, I stand at the top of the steps each morning greeting our Saints as they wearily arrive at school. If I’m lucky I get a quiet hello or maybe a groan. Lots of time, a head nod. I even get a couple of fist bumps. Those responses make me happy. One of my favorite things to do is to stop in classes and check out what is happening. I love it when I engage students and they can tell me what’s going on in a particular class or science lab, etc. Those encounters make me happy. So many times, I witness Saints helping other Saints with homework, studying, in the cafeteria cleaning up, or assisting a teacher. Those involvements make me happy. Last week at the football game at Hamburg, there were only a few student fans in the bleachers. But those couple of Saints responded with gusto to the cheerleaders as they went through their 3rd Quarter routine. That energy makes me happy. I could continue writing about all the many ways our Saints make me happy. But most of all, their presence and your family at BC makes me happy! Have a great weekend.

It’s a great day to be a Saint!

The Aevidum Club received a thank you note from Morgan’s Message for the donation we made from our dress down day last week to support mental health supports. The note read, in part, “We sincerely thank you for donating to Morgan’s Message. Your generosity will help us further educate, advocate and support student-athletes…as we aim to equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletics.

Thank you to the Cross Country Teams who assisted at the CYO Cross Country Championship last Sunday at BC. They were a huge help throughout the day and tremendous support for the young runners.

What's Happening

School Mass

Our next school Mass will take place Tuesday, October 28th at 9:00 a.m. in the Franco-Post Auditorium. Parents, guardians and families are always welcome to attend. If you plan to come to Mass, please sign in at the Main Office before coming down to the auditorium.

Goals for the Year

For the last several weeks, I shared with parents and guardians the goals that I had set for the current school year. The last goal is below. As the year moves forward, I will let families know how we are doing with achieving each of the goals that have been set.

  • Goal #5 is to learn each student by name. This is my goal every year - to know each student by name. When you can call someone by their name it makes an impact; it makes the student feel important and valued. I know I have my work cut out for me, but I already know over 50% of the student body by name.

Winter Dress Code

The winter dress code will go into effect on Monday, October 27th. Please review the following updates to ensure students are in compliance. All students are required to wear a sweater or quarter-zip over their school uniform shirt. Female students must wear black opaque tights instead of black socks and may choose to wear a white button-down dress blouse in place of a polo shirt. Please refer to the handbook for year-long dress code policies, particularly regarding skirt length and jewelry. Male students must wear a white button-down dress shirt with all buttons, including cuffs and top button, fastened at all times. Shirts must remain tucked in, and the approved school tie, available in the school store, is required. Please review the handbook for additional year-round expectations related to belts and grooming. As we enter the colder months, let’s continue to show pride in our school by being bold in meeting and exceeding our dress code expectations.

Halloween Costumes

Students may dress up for Halloween. Costumes should be appropriate for a Catholic school. If there is a question about whether a costume is appropriate, then the student should NOT wear it. Costumes also need to be legitimate costumes. Students should not just come to school dressed down in sweats and sneakers and call that a costume. Prizes will be awarded for the best and most creative costumes.
