January 23, 2026 Volume 3 - Issue 22

Dear Saint Families and Friends:

“Catholic schools are important places for reflecting on and developing new ways to evangelize the world and today’s cultures.”

-Pope Francis

Greetings from Berks Catholic! Happy Catholic Schools Week! As I have shared in the past, CSW is one of my favorite times of the school year. It is certainly fun to dress down and offer students different, exciting activities and treats during the week. But the significance of this week should not be downplayed. This is a week to celebrate who we are as a Catholic school – a place that works hard to evangelize our students and families by bringing Christ to them daily. A few years back, I was meeting with Bishop Schlert and he shared that we should never apologize for being a Catholic School. What he meant, of course, was that the word Catholic was an exceptionally important word. We should live it. Everyone who walks into our school should see it clearly.

Thank you for all you do to make Berks Catholic the wonderful place that it is. We are blessed to have you and your Saint as part of our amazing school community. Have a great weekend.

It’s a great day to be a Saint!

A Time to be BOLD!

What's Happening

School Mass

Our next school Mass will be during Catholic Schools Week on Wednesday, January 28th at 9:00 a.m. The Mass will have extra significance because this day begins the celebration of the diocesan 65th Anniversary Jubilee Year. Parents, guardians and families are always welcome to join us for Mass. If you plan to come, please sign in at the Main Office before coming to the Franco-Post auditorium.

Inclement Weather Policy

With this weekend’s storm looking pretty certain, we remind you about the school’s inclement weather policy. The policy can be found on page 41 of our Parent/Student Handbook which is found on our website. You can click here for the handbook: Student/Parent Handbook - Berks Catholic High School.

In the event we need to utilize a Flexible Learning (FLEX) Day, teachers will post assignments to Canvas by 9:00 a.m. Assignments will be due the next class day. Students may send either a Canvas message or an email to their teachers with questions. Teachers are required to check and respond to Canvas messages and emails at least twice a day at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Report Card Distribution

Report cards will be distributed on Tuesday, January 27th. Please make sure all financial responsibilities are covered to avoid a report card hold.

Course Selection

Course selection will begin the week of January 26th (pending weather) for students in grades 9 through 11. Students will receive course selection information at the beginning of that week. Mrs. Vilardo will meet with each grade to discuss the following: appropriate placements, qualifications for classes, Career and Technology, Virtual High School and Dual Credit opportunities. Teachers will work directly with students to help guide them through class selections. Students are encouraged to schedule meetings with the College Counseling Department through their calendly links to assist with appropriate class selection. Course selection papers will be collected March 6th and require both a student and parent signature.

*Please be aware that payment for course selection is now invoiced through Simple Tuition Solutions (STS). Payment must be made by March 31st. If payment is not received, this may delay scheduling of classes for your Saint.

News from the Tuition Office

Saint Families Testimonials

As a Saints family, your story helps inspire future Saints. Please share why you chose Berks Catholic or what the BC experience has meant to your family. Testimonials may be used for admissions, marketing and school communications. Thank you for being part of the Berks Catholic family.

Make a Joyful Noise Competition

IT’S TIME TO VOTE FOR BC! Please watch and vote for our school spirit video in the diocesan “Make a Joyful Noise” (MAJN) competition. As you may recall from the past few years, MAJN asks each school to choose a song and make a lip sync spirit video of the song. It encourages each school to get the entire student body involved in the video. We are ready and excited to share our video during Catholic Schools Week. Our goal is $5000. Look for the website next week to vote for our video.

Catholic Schools Week

We are excited to celebrate Catholic Schools Week (CSW) next week. On Sunday, January 25th, we will begin our annual celebration focused on the theme of “Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community.” As the theme reminds us, Catholic schools teach how Jesus Christ united us as a family of believers. They prepare students for the future by instilling in them faith that helps mold them into the future of the Church. Our Saints grow and mature by coming to know the importance of community and how together we can make our school and the world better places for everyone.

Given the likelihood of a winter storm this weekend, we may need to postpone events and rearrange our CSW schedule. We will communicate that to families once we know what the weather does.

Partner School Night

NEXT WEEK! All Future Saints from our partner schools are invited to Partner School Night on Thursday, January 29th during Catholic Schools Week. All Future Saints are welcome to join us at 6:00 p.m. for the boys’ basketball game against Muhlenberg High School. Come out, meet our staff and current Saints, cheer on the team and make new friends. There will be special surprises and giveaways during the evening. The evening coincides with our annual CSW Open House.

Catholic Schools Week Service Project

Once again, we have selected a service project to undertake as a school during CSW. Our project is being coordinated by the Pre-Med Club. We will be collecting new and gently used stuffed animals to be donated to the children’s section of Reading Hospital. Knowing the importance we place on service, we wanted to assist with a need right here in our community and impact children in Berks County. Modeling the Teddy Bear Toss that takes place at the Reading Royals game, we will have our own Teddy Bear Saints Toss on Friday during the Dodgeball Tournament.

Open House

NEXT WEEK! Berks Catholic will host our annual Open House on Thursday, January 29th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Our Open House is a terrific opportunity to see our school in action. You can hear from current Saints, tour the campus, learn about clubs, activities and sports, and meet with faculty and administrators. Please share this information with anyone you know who has middle school students. Did you know if you refer a public or home school student to BC and they enroll you can receive a tuition credit? For more details, contact Nicky Smith, Director of Admissions, at nsmith@berkscatholic.org.

The Saints Locker has openings! Please contact Mrs. Cunningham at 610-220-1583 for more information. All diocesan volunteer clearances are required for anyone wishing to volunteer in the store.
