A Message from our PTA President, Kamela Aboussie
Dear Bradfield Families,
Is there anything better than a snow day as a child?! It’s fun to remember this when you’re going on a few days of entertaining little energetic people around your house! I hope you have all stayed warm, with power, and enjoying the excitement a bit.
Maybe this downtime is well placed. On one hand, the daughters and daddies of Bradfield are recovering from the all out fun of Thursday night’s Daddy Daughter Dance. Meanwhile, our little Bronco scientists have some extra time to work on their projects for Friday’s Science Fair!
The Bradfield Dads Club outdid themselves with the most sentimental party of the year. Nothing is more special than seeing little girls dress their best with adoring dads. There was a LOT of excitement in our house since this is the first year we have a daughter at Bradfield, so now I get it! Thank you to everyone who planned and participated (including all the mom’s, aka hairstylists), with an extra big thank you to the BDC!
If you’re looking for a warm indoor activity and possibly a little retail therapy, you’re in luck! Today our Centennial Capsule Collection is live on the PTA website! The Centennial Committee has worked TIRELESSLY on these very special keepsakes. We hope these will remind you for years to come of the year we celebrated Bradfield’s 100th! There’s a little something for everyone, and I really hope you enjoy them!
Leaving you with some Dallas snow history. The first photo is of Dallas in 1926 when it snowed 6 inches on Christmas Day! In the photo is a reindeer-drawn sleigh on Main Street during the Christmas Day Parade. The next three photographs were taken right here in our neighborhood. Two are from 1964 during a record snowfall of 7 inches! In the first Highland Park High School students took to the school’s front lawn to play (check out their outfits!!) The next shows a snow day version of shoe polish on cars. It’s a Senior’s ’64 snowman, 14 feet tall, and built of course by guys in letter jackets. The last photo was taken at Bradfield! January of 1996 was bitterly cold, cold enough for the Park Cities People to write about the ongoing freezing temps. Here you can see the Snider Plaza fountain iced over, and above this photo is Bradfield’s own crossing guard, Ruby Long! Ruby is literally bundled trying to keep warm as she walks children across the street.
I hope you all stay bundled too! Enjoy this time off, take lots of photos, and I will see you on Wednesday!!
Love,
Kam
