A Message from Dr. Hilton

Dear Bradfield Families, 

As we wrap up our Thanksgiving break, I hope you enjoyed your traditions and maybe created a few new ones. In the Hilton home, it was full of family time, cooking, laughing, and a lot of relaxation. I hope your family enjoyed the same. Nothing is better than spending time with family and loved ones.

This week our Broncos will celebrate how each of our unique differences make for a stronger learning environment for every student, every day. Scots Shine Together is a week where students will participate in classroom discussions, activities, and events focused on inclusion, acceptance, kindness, and empathy for others. 

A special thank you to Bradfield’s Special Education Coordinator, Dr. J’Aime Balogh, the HPISD Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SEPAC), and Bradfield’s SEPAC parent rep, Laura McCallan for their help in coordinating this week’s events and celebrations. Finally, children’s author, Greg Pizzoli will be on campus this Wednesday to visit with our Broncos. Thank you to HPArts, Mrs. Penman, and Interabang Books for organizing this cool event!

A Message from our PTA President, Kamela Aboussie

Dear Broncos, 

I hope everyone enjoyed a well-earned Thanksgiving break with your family and friends! 

Thanksgiving reminds me of tradition. As a mom I’m always trying to establish and then (the hard part!!) hold onto traditions so my children hopefully feel a sense of being grounded when they think back on their childhood. 

I was reminded of tradition when I opened up Bradfield’s trusty scrapbook this weekend. The school’s 50th year celebration was also the Bicentennial celebration of the United States of America (when the US was turning 200 years old!) Bradfield’s curriculum for the ‘75-’76 school year centered around studying our country’s heritage to better understand the many traditions our citizens have carried forward. Each grade level studied a culture specific to our history. First grade studied Indians and their influence, and second grade studied the Pilgrims. Third grade studied the Spanish, while fourth grade studied the French. And finally fifth grade studied the American Revolutionists. 

Look below at this cute scrapbook page when the 3rd grade recreated a Spanish Fiesta in December 1975. If you look close enough you’ll spot cans of Coca Cola and Pepsi, which are certainly *not* 2025 approved!! :)

This is a fun reminder that even though Bradfield and Highland Park have of course been around long enough to establish our own culture (which we love!), we are still a melting pot of traditions passed down from generations of families from all over the United States and the world.

This week is Scots Shine Together week, and this seems like a timely way to celebrate the culture our school and school district have diligently and lovingly created. Our various family backgrounds and cultures add so much to our experience at Bradfield, while we are all Broncos and Scots! (One Bradfield holiday tradition you won’t want to miss are Susan Graeber’s famous sugar cookies!)

I’m excited to get back to school as we enter the homestretch of 2025!
