A Message from Dr. Hilton
Dear Bradfield Families,
What an amazing week! We had the joy of celebrating Bradfield’s Centennial as our Broncos honored the past, celebrated the present, and provided a bridge to future generations. From dedicating a tree, welcoming our alumni, singing happy birthday, preserving history in a time capsule, and hosting a family picnic, all of these events were definitely ones to remember. Thank you to Kamela Aboussie for her leadership, attention to detail, and spearheading the charge of every incredible event our school has hosted this year! From start to finish, each event reflected the spirit, creativity, and dedication that make our school community so special.

I hope you all are having a fantastic weekend, and I will see everyone at the front door tomorrow morning.
Kindly,
Dr. Aimee Hilton

A Message from our PTA President, Kamela Aboussie
Dear Bradfield Families,
Thank you for rallying to help create an epic week of memories for our whole school community! Our beloved Bradfield is well-celebrated and ready to kick off the next 100 years! I wish I could come up with the word to describe the past week…extraordinary is as close as I can find.
Kicking off the week with our tree dedication could have been text book, but was made so special by our students. They were very curious about the new tree, and came primed with questions. Once they saw the ceremonial shovel and the tree’s new plaque they politely asked if they could touch them, which became a sweet part of the ceremony. I wish everyone could have seen their ooohs and aaahs! The 4th graders took their new saplings very seriously, and have honored our school well by thoughtfully planting them at home this week. I received the most wonderful messages and photos of students carefully choosing just the right sapling, scoping out planting areas, and digging BIG holes.
Bradfield Homecoming, my goodness, was as feel-good as it gets. It reminded me that our time at Bradfield, whether as a parent or a student, will have a lasting impact. The people who showed up with such pride, and the stories they told were heartwarming. I hope it was fun and interesting for our current families to see, and from what I saw, it filled a space in the hearts of alums and former families. We had many special visitors from John S. Bradfield’s family, to Carole McBride (who planned Bradfield’s 50th year celebration), and the Flores family with Sam Jr. who grew a mustache for the event in honor of his dad!
The Birthday Party was a mid-week burst of energy!! We knew the students would love it, but we didn’t know they’d love it that much! We had tunes and a dancing Blaze, HPISD Board Members handing out JDs Chippery cookies, party hats (also a surprise giant hit), and the cutest matching t-shirts ever, fit for a once every 100 years party!
Our Thursday Time Capsule Ceremony was as sweet as the Tree Dedication, but with the added element of excitement to find out which grade-level item won. We had a drumroll, the announcement, and huge cheers! We also had many many questions about what a time capsule actually is, why we have one, and when we’re planning to dig it up. The answer is in 50 years, and we told our students they’ll be the ones responsible to remember and come back to Bradfield for the big moment in 2076!
Friday night was a dream on The BradFIELD! It was a perfect blend of community, simplicity and celebration, and so perfectly encapsulated the essence of our Bradfield culture. It was iconic watching Woody and Buzz on the big BIG screen with the 1935 Village Theater lights in the background. There were many favorite moments, and one I have to share was when the concession popcorn wasn’t popping as quickly as needed, and Mrs. Susan saved the day, like she always does! Below is a photo of Susan in a closet firing up Bradfield’s popcorn machine, and happily filling tubs to deliver to our hungry families! It reminded me that it takes a village, and we’re one big Bradfield family!
I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who served on our Centennial Committee. I brought Laura and Rachel out of retirement for the year to help, and in her usual way, Jen jumped in anywhere and everywhere with her servant’s heart. Please be sure to take a look at the list of volunteers because I really couldn’t have planned and executed the week without them. Another giant thanks goes to Dr. Hilton who trusted me with uncharted territory and grand plans, and who supported the PTA wholeheartedly throughout the process.
The biggest thank you goes to our school community as a whole. We wouldn’t have much to celebrate if you all didn’t take the pride you do in our friendships and traditions. I am so grateful for the legacy we’re carrying on!
With love,
Kam

A Special Message from the Bradfield PTA
As we reflect on a truly unforgettable Centennial Week, we pause with immense gratitude to recognize the heart and vision behind it all, our incredible PTA President, Kamela Aboussie.
Her thoughtfulness and care created a memorable moment in time in Bradfield history. From a symbolic Tree Planting Ceremony, to a heartfelt Homecoming, to the purest form of joy a Cafeteria Birthday Party, to a curated Time Capsule, and finally, a special Family Movie Night on the new turf under the stars, this week created memories we will carry forward and charish forever.
None of this would have been possible without Kamela’s tireless dedication and love for Bradfield. She has given our school a gift that extends far beyond a single week, she has touched the hearts of all Broncos both past and present. Kamela, thank you for leading this once in a lifetime celebration with such commitment and passion.
With deepest appreciation,
The Bradfield PTA
