A Message from Dr. Hilton

Dear Bradfield Families,

Congratulations! You and your children made it through the first full week of school. A fantastic week was had by all, as students were becoming more familiar with their routines, school procedures, and of course, building relationships with their teachers and classmates.

Curriculum Night is right around the corner. Tomorrow evening, we will have two identical sessions for you to learn about your child’s classroom and curriculum.  The first session will be from 5:00-5:30pm, and a repeat session will be from 5:45-6:15pm.  The identical sessions allow parents with multiple students to visit each classroom. We hope you are able to attend this informative event.

You may have also noticed a new face in the front office.  Please help me welcome Jo Ann Cole to our Bradfield family.  Mrs. Cole has extensive experience as an administrative assistant/receptionist in a school setting. We are so excited to have her join our team.

Here are a few reminders:

Carpool:

Help carpool go a little faster by helping your child memorize their carpool number. It’s a small task that will save everyone time at dismissal.

Birthday/Classroom Treats and Celebrations:

As a gentle reminder, we celebrate every child’s birthday with special recognition on the morning announcements and in the classroom. Because of food allergies and nutritional guidelines, parents are asked not to bring/send edible birthday treats to distribute to other students in the class, either in the classroom or in the cafeteria. Contact your child’s teacher for more information and guidelines. Please refrain from sending balloons, stuffed animals, flowers, etc. For individual birthday parties, invitations are not to be distributed at school.

Pets on Campus Property:

We love our pets, but please refrain from bringing them on campus during arrival and dismissal times, as well as campus-wide events that draw large crowds of people such as the carnival, field day, and family picnics.  In addition, pets should never be in the playground area or on the playing fields, for the safety of students and staff, and for the safety of the animals.

Finally, enjoy these sweet pictures from Broncoland this week.

1st graders playing a conflict resolution game in P.E.

Kindergartners are learning how to write and build numbers.

4th graders learning about science lab safety.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend, and I will see you on the front steps on Monday.

Kindly,

Dr. Aimee Hilton

We know rules can be boring, but we have them to make sure

elementary school life is as safe as possible!

Please take time to look through these reminders:

  • Do NOT cross Southern in the middle of the street walking to or from school.

  • Use the detours on Livingston and Potomac until field construction is finished in October.

  • HPISD has a new security check-in system. It is a big upgrade for our district, but requires more time. You *must* check in and out at the front desk of the main office during school hours and wait until your badge is printed.

  • You must wear your badge in the building at all times during school hours.

  • If you have not completed a background check with the district, you must bring your license with you at every check-in.

  • If you bring your child to school after the 7:55 tardy bell, you must enter through the front office, and let a staff member walk your child to class.

A Message from our PTA President, Kamela Aboussie

Dear Broncos,

We can check off our first full week on the books! I hope your families and children are very happy reconnecting with friends, teachers and a school rhythm. Though, give yourselves some grace if it’s taking a minute!

The first couple weeks of school are also filled with housekeeping items like forms to fill out, orientations to attend, learning and relearning procedures. This week I found myself getting caught up in the stress, and a dear friend sweetly reminded me, “Kam, remember it’s only August.” Yikes!

I sat with this on Friday, and decided to refocus on the ideals of this stage of life with our families, the gift of a neighborhood school and our goal this year of strengthening community. So, with that, here are a few glimpses into ways Bradfield built community this week.

We welcomed back our beloved crossing guard JT, and we are reminded of what an uplifting start and finish to the school day he gives us! We hosted our Newcomers and Cafeteria Orientations, and we are reminded of the many parents who work hard with the shared goal of giving our children the best experiences possible. And finally, Susan Graeber and her cafeteria team gifted iced pink and purple cookies in the lunchroom on Thursday honoring Lila and Eloise. This was an effort and display of love Susan has been working on for over a month, and we’re reminded of our staff’s dedication to our students!

Next week we will debut a new Blaze section in honor of our 100th year called “Bronco Legends,” highlighting legendary members of our school community. I’ll kick it off with a brief statement made about none other than John Sherman Bradfield. Among many other things, Mr. Bradfield served on the Highland Park school board beginning in 1914. In 1925 they voted to name our school after him because his service to our community was “characterized not only by length of service but that of wisdom and devotion.”

So, when the chaos kicks in, I’m sending myself back to reminders of JT’s, our PTA volunteers’ and dear Susan Graeber’s cornerstones of service, wisdom and community devotion.

Here’s to a great week!
