A Message from our PTA President, Kamela Aboussie
Dear Broncos,
We can check off our first full week on the books! I hope your families and children are very happy reconnecting with friends, teachers and a school rhythm. Though, give yourselves some grace if it’s taking a minute!
The first couple weeks of school are also filled with housekeeping items like forms to fill out, orientations to attend, learning and relearning procedures. This week I found myself getting caught up in the stress, and a dear friend sweetly reminded me, “Kam, remember it’s only August.” Yikes!
I sat with this on Friday, and decided to refocus on the ideals of this stage of life with our families, the gift of a neighborhood school and our goal this year of strengthening community. So, with that, here are a few glimpses into ways Bradfield built community this week.
We welcomed back our beloved crossing guard JT, and we are reminded of what an uplifting start and finish to the school day he gives us! We hosted our Newcomers and Cafeteria Orientations, and we are reminded of the many parents who work hard with the shared goal of giving our children the best experiences possible. And finally, Susan Graeber and her cafeteria team gifted iced pink and purple cookies in the lunchroom on Thursday honoring Lila and Eloise. This was an effort and display of love Susan has been working on for over a month, and we’re reminded of our staff’s dedication to our students!
Next week we will debut a new Blaze section in honor of our 100th year called “Bronco Legends,” highlighting legendary members of our school community. I’ll kick it off with a brief statement made about none other than John Sherman Bradfield. Among many other things, Mr. Bradfield served on the Highland Park school board beginning in 1914. In 1925 they voted to name our school after him because his service to our community was “characterized not only by length of service but that of wisdom and devotion.”
So, when the chaos kicks in, I’m sending myself back to reminders of JT’s, our PTA volunteers’ and dear Susan Graeber’s cornerstones of service, wisdom and community devotion.
Here’s to a great week!
Kamela Aboussie
