A Message from our PTA President, Kamela Aboussie
Dear Bradfield Families,
We had an all-around, All-American week at Bradfield - Patriot’s Day, the opening of our Learning Garden, Crossing Guard Appreciation Day, and we gifted our first set of library Birthday Books!
Thank you so much to those who attended Bradfield’s Patriot’s Day ceremony. It was very special and sweet, and it felt like a good-ol’ elementary school assembly. This is unique to Bradfield, and I’m proud of our community for keeping the tradition going! A lot of people joined in to make sure this day was memorable for our students, and I am so grateful!
To keep it going, this week we kick off one of my very favorite Bradfield events of the year, Reading Rodeo! This is the intersection of a little friendly competition with what we all want our children doing more of, reading! This year we celebrate the best children’s stories of the century with A Century of Stories. The cutest group of chairs have been hard at work for months planning Reading Rodeo, and we’re all in for some fun!
I got curious and researched the most popular children’s books written in the 1920’s, when Bradfield opened its doors. I was delighted to see some of the best titles of all time! These books our children still read today like Winnie the Pooh, The Velveteen Rabbit, Bambi, The Story of Doctor Dolittle, Millions of Cats, The Box Car Children, Raggedy Ann Stories and The Hardy Boys. To celebrate, we’ll have some of these 1920’s titles in a basket by the front office. If you happen to be there waiting with your children, feel free to read aloud (for Reading Rodeo minutes, no doubt!)
Signing off with this cute hand drawn patriot from Bradfield’s 1990 scrapbook. It was drawn by my friend and Bradfield alum, Ryan Woodall. It’s also a hint to a fun Centennial surprise we’re announcing next week!
