A Message from our PTA President, Kamela Aboussie
Dear Broncos,
The Reading Rodeo team has knocked it out of the park! With the theme being books we’re reminded around every corner to read, read, read! How completely adorable are the book trees in the front? It was a very fun and delightful kick-off, and there’s more in store this week. I love seeing our Bronco Bookworms excited about reading!
It’s hard to believe we’re rounding the corner to the last part of September. Our final PTA event of the month is our annual General PTA Meeting on September 30th, a panel discussion on Building Character in Boys and Girls Youth Sports. Over the summer as I was scrambling to register for my family’s long list of fall sports and activities, the idea came to mind, borne of my own curiosity. These days many kids are involved in more sports, more activities and at a more intense level than we were back in our elementary school days. As parents we hope the added efforts and time are purposeful and developmental for our children, and they also beg questions of how we can make it so. We have a special panel of coaches with a range of backgrounds coming to Bradfield to answer these questions and to share their wisdom from coaching over the decades. I hope you will join us next week!
This is also a timely topic with the opening of our new Bradfield play field in about four weeks! I thought I’d give everyone a quick update on construction progress so far, and on what we have in store for its completion. First, thank you for hanging in there with us during this project. Construction periods are never ideal, but you all have really rolled with it throughout the start of school, and I hope it’s worth the wait!
Thus far, since breaking ground in mid-July, our contractor Paragon has graded the field, installed new irrigation to the trees and other landscaping, built six new tree beds, and installed a new drainage system across the entire field. In the coming weeks we’ll get to see the fun stuff….turf installation and new trees being planted!
It wouldn’t be a letter from me without a dose of nostalgia! During Bradfield’s 50th anniversary celebration, the PTA’s big gift to the school was a new playground area. I didn’t know this at the time we planned for our new field, but when I found out it gave even more meaning to our big 100th year project. I’ll have more to share about this as our completion date nears. In the meantime, look at this cute (paper!) invitation to the playground groundbreaking 💛.
Wishing you all a wonderful week!
Love,
Kamela
