A Message from our PTA President, Kamela Aboussie
Dear Broncos,
A cool-ish front came in, the State Fair opened, pumpkins started popping up…fall is here!!!
As we welcome October, we have a really fun and full week at Bradfield! We’ll host four fantastic speakers on Tuesday at our PTA meeting; Thursday we’re throwing our first Parent Party; on Friday we’re all encouraged to walk to school (and stop for a coffee and a visit with fellow Bradfield parents); and don’t forget to join the 4th graders for a delicious JD’s Chippery cookie after school on Friday!
The highlight of my week is celebrating our second ever Bronco Legend, Susan Graeber, whom I adore! This week I sat down with her for a visit, learning more about her and her decades at Bradfield. She has been at Bradfield 35 years, wow! I consider Susan a treasure and our resident keeper of Bradfield memories (blue heart)
Susan came to Bradfield in 1991 and has never looked back. She’s now serving lunch to the children of some of the first children she served back in the 90s! She has seen Bradfield through three decades, three kitchens, two schools, and two generations of Broncos. Susan, Debra, Joyce and Jaime have been working at Bradfield a combined 123 years!!! Talk about loving your co-workers! Debra came first in 1989, then Susan in ‘91, Joyce in ‘92 and Jaime joined them in 2008.
I asked Susan a number of questions, and when I asked what she loves about her job my heart was warmed. She got a twinkle in her eye, a sweet smile on her face and said, “Seeing the excitement of the children coming through the lunch line everyday. And the parents. I love the love our parents and PTA have for the school, and their willingness to volunteer.” She says in three decades this has never changed.
For 35 years Susan has arrived at Bradfield everyday at 6:15 am, opening the kitchen to serve our students. She loves to bake, and several times a year offers her famous iced cookies, both in the cafeteria and to take home! (Keep an eye out for this!) She cooks Bradfield’s delicious mac and cheese from scratch, serves freshly brewed iced tea to the staff, beautifully caters all our special Bradfield before and after school events, and stays after school every day to care for our aftercare students.
In her time outside Bradfield, you’ll find Susan catering Wednesday night dinners for her church, where she plays the handbells, cooking a traditional Sunday night dinner for her family, and needlepointing.
Enjoy these sweet photos below of Susan and her team through the years!
Susan, you have our utmost gratitude for your decades of dedication to Bradfield! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!
