Dear Friends of Glastonbury Abbey:

An event-filled summer has culminated with the Abbatial Blessing of Father Thomas by Cardinal Sean O'Malley on August 11th, at an outdoor Mass on a perfect summer day, attended by 500 people!  The news made the front page of the Quincy Patriot Ledger.

Now, with September upon us, our pace quickens with the return of classes, retreats, spiritual enrichment discussions, films and many other offerings.

The Glastonbury Abbey Institute, which was established to proclaim the Abbey's many offerings, has a dedicated committee that has developed an extensive, 24-page brochure encompassing our programs.  The brochure has been mailed to over 35,000 households on the South Shore.   This is our most ambitious attempt to reach out and make folks aware of the diverse offerings of the Abbey.  To download the brochure click here.

Our mission and purpose is always to be Christ's presence in our community and in you, our friends.  We invite you to learn and pray with us in the coming year.

Peace and blessings,
The Benedictine Monks of Glastonbury Abbey

For more info on the Oblate Chapter at Glastonbury, there is a comprehensive description on the Abbey's website , or e-mail: oblates@glastonburyabbey.org    The Glastonbury chapter meets monthly from September through June on the first Tuesday of each month.  Newcomers spend a year as Oblate Observers and meet in class with a monk to learn the foundations of Benedictine spirituality.  New Observer classes begin each Fall.

Zealot by Reza Aslan

Book Review

Title:          "Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth"

How can you resist a book with this title? You can't.

Especially if you think or imagine you know all about Jesus, or at least enough about him to think you don't need to know any more. Especially if he's being called a "zealot." He was called a lot of things in his day but it seems something like a sacrilege to call him that.
