The winter has been full of inspiring accomplishments and experiences for the CitySquash community. We are getting settled into the new rhythms and routines in the Julian H. Robertson Jr. CitySquash Center, and it has been a joy to host so many people here for squash, family meals, and more. Our team members continue to find success on the courts and in the classrooms, and our staff has found ways to help them explore New York, celebrate their accomplishments, and spend time with their families. Spring tours to San Francisco, Washington DC, the Hudson Valley, and New England are weeks away. And for those who love a party, The Bash is on the calendar -- May 28 at Tribeca Rooftop! Read below for more information on all of it. Please reach out if you'd like to come visit our new building while it's still new. We're here seven days a week, twelve months a year providing opportunities for our team members and our community. | DOORS OPEN Boarding School Bound! | | We are thrilled to celebrate the four students who were accepted to private high schools for Fall 2026. These students have worked incredibly hard throughout their middle school years and completed a rigorous high school placement process full of applications, interviews, travel, and more. Congratulations Sergio (Berkshire School), Jayden (St. George's School), Eduardo (Millbrook School), and Kathleen (Rectory School). We cannot wait to follow along on your next adventures. | STRONGER TOGETHER On Court for National Girls & Women in Sports Day | Thanks to the efforts of our Program Associate and Penn squash alum, Yoshna Singh (back right), on February 4, CitySquash celebrated National Girls & Women in Sports Day with a very special evening of squash and pizza. Our female team members invited their moms, sisters, aunts, and friends. Alumni came back to get on court and some of our academic staff members laced up their squash shoes, too. A squash center full of women and girls was a wonderful experience for everyone, and we plan to do it again soon.
ON THE PODIUM SEA Team Nationals | | 60 CitySquash students traveled to Philadelphia to play in the SEA Nationals. There, our students had the opportunity to spend time with members of our sister programs from around the country and get some amazing competition experience. Highlights of the weekend included both the Middle School Girls and the Middle School Boys teams winning gold (pictured above), the High School Girls placing second overall, and both High School Boys teams finishing 4th in their divisions.
ON BREAK
Tourists in Their Own City
| CitySquash takes full advantage of school breaks as a time for extra programming. Over the February break, students traveled throughout the city. They visited The New York Hall of Science, The Museum of Jewish Heritage, The National Jazz Museum, and The Intrepid (pictured above). 3rd Graders had a visit from attorney Menna Elsayed, after reading Sonia Sotomayor: A Judge Grows in the Bronx by Jonah Winter and our High Schoolers and 6th grade completed community service with Bronx based POTS - Part of the Solution. We are in the midst of planning our Spring Tours for the April break. | |
IN THE MOMENT
A Cell Phone Free Building!
| | CitySquash is committed to serving our team members in all ways -- athletically, academically, socially, and emotionally. Research points to cell phones being a major source of anxiety and stress for students as well as a distraction from work and conversation. We are proud to have officially made our building a phone-free zone for students. There is a small area at the front where students can use phones to call their parents, but other than that, when they are here in our special new space, they can be present and focused on what matters -- squash, schoolwork, and connecting with friends and mentors. | | |
IN COMMUNITY
FebFest is a Success
| It was so much fun to host over thirty people for a day of squash and community on our new courts. The team-based FebFest format made it fun for all ages and skill levels, and we were thrilled to have members of Board of Directors and Junior Board play with new supporters, New York City juniors, and CitySquash team members. The winning team is pictured above. Look out for more information about upcoming opportunities to get on our courts! | |
ON THE ICE
Skating Through Life
| | Ice skating at Wollman Rink is a longtime CitySquash tradition. We love the opportunity to bring students and mentors together to do this classic New York activity together. The night represents the chance for our students to try a new activity and get to know new people. This year we had over one hundred people skating together. We're already excited for next year -- though we'll be excited for some warm weather in before then. | | |
SEA SUPERSTARS
Hardware Everywhere!

CitySquash took 19 students to the Connecticut Open at the new Squash Bridge facility in Bridgeport. There, our students had the opportunity to test their skills against over 100 students from other Squash and Education Alliance programs. They crushed it! Thanks to SEA for putting on such a wonderful day, and congratulations to our many medalists.

FAMILY FUN
Pancakes for Parents!
| We are working hard to make sure our building gets used as much as possible. One of our newest initiatives is to create opportunities for parents to spend time with their children here. In 2026, we have already hosted a movie night and a special "Breakfast for Dinner" night out (pictured above). Family bonding will take place here for years to come. | |
HIGH SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS
Celebrating Our Seniors
| As a celebration of the end of the college application season and a transition back to traditional academic programming, CitySquash High School Academic Director, Abby Dziura, treated our high school seniors to dinner at Estrella Azteca on Arthur Avenue. The restaurant is owned by a CitySquash family and is the site of many of our special outings. Now that applications are in, the seniors are taking part in a life skills curriculum that is focused on budgeting, cooking, and so much more. They're getting ready for life away from home -- and having fun along the way. | | Everyone's favorite party is less than three months away! Information on ticket sales will be sent out soon. Stay tuned...and see you there! | | |
