Flying through Fall!

With fall well underway, the CitySquash days, nights, and weekends are packed with activities. Above, students prepare for one of their first tournaments (left), our charity runners took to the streets of the city in support of our organization (middle), and students and families gathered for our annual Fordham field day, Black and Orange (right). In the classroom, on the courts, and out in the world the CitySquash team members are learning and growing together. In December, we will conclude our tryout process and welcome our new 3rd and 6th graders. In the spring, the construction of the Julian H. Robertson Jr. CitySquash Center will be completed. There is so much to look forward to here in the Bronx.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Families at Fordham

Black and Orange is one of our most fun fall traditions. Team members and their families gathered at Fordham University to battle it out at squash, basketball, running, math facts, and more. It is a true celebration of community and a chance for our students to show our families what it's like to be a part of CitySquash.

AT THE CRACK OF DAWN

Early Birds Get the Wins

Students who want to get a workout before school meet Director of Squash, Bryan Patterson, at 6:30 AM to train on court bright early. We finish with enough time to buy everyone a deli breakfast before they start their day. We know the hard work of our morning squashers will pay off as the tournament season picks up!

IN THE CLASSROOM

Brianna is Student of the Month!

Brianna has been selected as the Student of the Month for her outstanding contributions and positive attitude during academic sessions, high school placement classes, and when working in the learning center. Known for her dedication and enthusiasm, Brianna consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic and a willingness to help her peers. She is a role model, always ready to lend a hand and encourage others. Tory Huchro, CitySquash's Middle School Academic Director said, "Brianna embraces learning opportunities and approaches each task with curiosity, determination, and positivity. Her classmates appreciate her kindness and support, making her a beloved member of the eighth-grade community." Congratulations, Brianna! Your hard work and integrity inspire those around you. We are proud to celebrate your achievements this month!

ON THE COURT

Gerardo is Player of the Month!

Gerardo, a senior at Morris Academy for Collaborative Studies, has been selected as our Player of the Month for October for his outstanding daily effort and his willingness to support his team members. During the month of October, he played in two silver tournaments and earned 4th place both times. He has shown consistent progress, a love for squash, and real commitment to improving his game. Bryan Patterson, CitySquash's Director of Squash, says "Gerardo is conscientious, thoughtful, and an extremely hard worker." As the squash season heats up, we are excited to see how his hard work helps him in his upcoming squash season. Congratulations, Gerardo!

OUR NEW HOME

Students Visit their Future Club

Home from boarding school for their fall weekend, Steph (Canterbury School '26), James (Hotchkiss '28), and Geraldo (Hotchkiss '28) toured the future Julian H. Robertson Jr. CitySquash Center, which remains on track to open this spring. We can't wait to have these three and the rest of the CitySquash team play on their own courts soon. Pictured above right is the foundation for what will be the viewing gallery above four of the six squash courts. To schedule your own tour, message us here!

IN THE THICK OF IT

It's College Application Season!

Our local high school seniors (pictured above) have been spending many hours in the CitySquash office finalizing their college applications. A number of early decision and early action applications have been submitted, and many more will go out in the coming weeks and months. This group has impressed the staff with their hard work, humor, and support of one another amidst the stress. We are excited to see where everyone ends up, and we are proud of everyone's commitment to this next step in their journey.

THROUGH THE STREETS OF NEW YORK

Charity Runners Raise Over $25,000

Audrey Duboc Chastain-Chapman (above left), Hugh Doherty, Leyton Johnston, Ryan Logrieco, Will Rowles, and Lucas Wherry (above right) ran the New York City Marathon in honor of CitySquash. We are honored they chose to fundraise for our organization, and our students were thrilled to see them in their orange shirts when they passed by our Bronx cheer squad. Audrey said, "Squash gave me purpose, friendship, education and a homebase anywhere that wasn't 'home'. I'm forever grateful to the sport and all the coaches that guided me along the way...my hope is that the CitySquash students will have the same opportunities that I had." And Lucas said, "The relentless hard work and dedication of the CitySquash student athletes is such an inspiration. Running the marathon as a member of the CitySquash Junior Board is a true privilege. Redefine your own limits, enjoy the ride and keep on truckin!" We hope they all enjoyed the 26.2 mile ride through New York. If you're interested in running for CitySquash in 2025, email us here!
