Squash and Tourism in the UK!

Seven CitySquash students traveled to England with Bryan Patterson, CitySquash Director of Squash, to take part in his Universal Squash Camp. The students stayed in Lee-on-Solent, trained in Chichester, and had the opportunity to visit London. Gerardo, a high school senior, said, "It was really amazing to experience the different options of food in England like Indian, Turkish and Chinese. The kids at the squash camp were very welcoming and being in England felt like a whole new world and a great experience everyone should have." Camille, a high school junior, said, "I am very grateful for this opportunity...it was very pretty there and I would love to go back!" Travel continues to be an important part of the CitySquash journey, and as we embark on this new year of programming, we will continuing to find chances for our students to see the world.

IN THE CATSKILLS

Fun at Sleepaway Camp

In July, sixteen CitySquashers attended Camp Herrlich, where they spent their days outdoors participating in educational and recreational programming. For most of these students, it was the first time they had ever traveled away from home. Students made friends, had new adventures (ropes courses, archery, fishing, and more!) and developed independence. Above, Victor shows the Camp Herrlich love with his counselor.

AT KENT SCHOOL

High Performance Squash

CitySquash sent eight students on the High Performance Team for intensive squash training with the top players in the Squash + Education Alliance (SEA) network. Team members received instruction from elite coaches and had the opportunity to focus on fundamentals and fitness as well as match play. The twelve days were also an opportunity for students to live on a boarding school campus and to get to know members of SEA programs.

AT THE TAFT SCHOOL

Campus Life and Learning

Three CitySquashers received scholarships from SEA to attend Summer@Taft. There, they each chose four academic classes, participated in daily sports activities, and spent the weekends exploring Boston and New York City. Pictured above, Michelle works with her teacher on Algebra 1.

Cultural Exchange in Colombia

James and Luis traveled to spend time with Squash Urbano Colombia.

The boys participated in the program's summer camp, which consisted of intensive squash training, daily academics, and field trips. Time in South America and the opportunity to connect with students and staff from our SEA sister program made for an unforgettable experience for these two high schoolers. We know they will have lots to share with their classmates at Rectory (Luis) and Hotchkiss (James).

Recruiting is Underway

CitySquash students attended squash recruiting camps at Amherst College, Cornell University, and Bowdoin College. Our strongest squash players are working hard to join the 70 CitySquashers that have played or are currently playing squash at the college level. Above, Ashley (top middle) and Lindyn (bottom middle) hang out with fellow campers in the dorm at Amherst College.

Friends and Fresh Air in Lake Placid

For nearly fifteen years, CitySquash has spent the last week of August enjoying the outdoors in Lake Placid. Elementary school students through college seniors (and even some alumni) gathered for hiking, swimming, camp fires, and the annual Cabin Cup. Congrats to this year's Orange Team on their big win! The Lake Placid trip is an important team tradition and one that students often cite as one of their favorite CitySquash memories. We deeply value the moments when our youngest and oldest team members can connect. This trip is possible thanks to the continued generosity of the Reiss Family, who allow us to use their beautiful family camp. Thank you!
