The Importance of Parks
Part Three of a Four-Part Series
In this extraordinary time, parks have once again proven themselves to be critical public infrastructure, strengthening neighborhoods and building bonds among people from all walks of life. The COVID-19 pandemic has placed a premium on access to nature and physical activity with appropriate social distancing, making urban parks more vital to the health of our cities than ever before.
The August issue of Parks & Recreation magazine explores these concepts in detail, revealing that, because of the pandemic, public parks have become more important to people and more essential to our health and well-being than ever before. As a result, park planners are looking to redesign common areas and public gathering spots with an eye towards improving the flow of pedestrian traffic and maintaining physical distancing. In addition, many parks around the country are becoming public service agencies, addressing issues such as health disparities and food insecurity, in an effort to rebuild and reconnect communities. Check out the link below to read more about the adaptability of parks in meeting the challenge to keep people safe and how they may be affected on the other side of COVID-19.

KWP Staff Member Highlight
Our new Events Assistant is excited about the challenge of working on events in the new COVID normal and is providing lots of help with making them happen safely. She is quickly making friends with the Park team, but already knew one member of the staff before arriving: Park CFO and her dad, Larry McCoy. Fun fact about Caroline? She is a triplet – and is the only girl in the group! When asked about her favorite feature of Klyde Warren Park, Caroline responded that she loves that it is a special place for anyone to come together. Welcome aboard, Caroline!

Please note that all lawns are closed for rye overseeding
until October 14.
