2024 Solar Eclipse

Are you ready for the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8? In Kenosha County we will be able to see a partial eclipse at around 2:00pm where 90% of the Sun will be hidden by the Moon, and the sky will become dark. The Community Library will be hosting a Solar Eclipse Viewing at the Salem Branch on Monday, April 8 from 1pm-3pm. Join us to watch the eclipse on library grounds (weather permitting) or view it close-up on the NASA live stream inside the library.

Make sure to keep your eyes protected when looking at the Sun. You cannot use regular sunglasses. Pick up your free pair of solar-viewing glasses at the information desks starting Monday, March 25 at the Salem and Twin Lakes Branches while supplies last. Due to limited quantities, we are asking that patrons take one pair per household.

Celebrate National Library Week | April 8-13, 2024

National Library Week is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and library workers and to promote library use and support. From free access to books and online resources for families to library business centers that help support entrepreneurship and retraining, libraries offer opportunity to all.

This is a fantastic opportunity for patrons to simultaneously pay down library fines while giving back to the community.

Food items will be collected at both Community Library branches (Salem and Twin Lakes) during the week of April 8. Donations made will go to The Sharing Center in Trevor and the Twin Lakes Area Food Pantry.

The library will collect non-perishable food items only. The food item must have a UPC bar code on it, indicating that it is typically sold individually and be non-expired.

All non-perishable food items will be accepted; however, the following items have been requested:

peanut butter, jelly, cereal, soup, stews, ravioli, Spaghetti O's, baked beans, canned beans, especially refried beans and garbanzo beans, canned vegetables, elbow macaroni, canned chicken, rice, dry beans, flour and sugar.

One food item will pay down $1.00 of library fines (or less). A fine of $0.50 will require one food item, and a fine of $1.30 will require two food items. Change will not be given for the difference.

Food will only be accepted for late fines (not item replacement costs, sale items, or collection agency fees), and there will be no upper limit to how much in fines a patron can satisfy with food donations.
