Who do you wear your mask for?
Who do you wear a mask for?

This is a reminder that every single person in the community must wear a mask or face covering when out in public around others.

How necessary is it to wear a mask?

Deputy Mayor Dr. Larry Stock, MD, FACEP, an emergency medicine physician and Vice-Chairman of the Emergency Department at Antelope Valley Hospital discussed with Council Members that it is necessary for the community as a whole to implement a “culture of safety” that includes wearing masks or face coverings around others.

“A mask is important to prevent transmission from person to person - the number one way in which we spread the virus. We need to think of having a culture of safety that includes wearing masks whenever other people are around,” he said. “It’s about who you are trying to protect. The culture of safety is respecting other people, understanding their vulnerabilities, and understanding your own.”

Wearing a mask will help us defeat this virus and protect the ones we love.

#NowOpen
Thank you Mayor Parris and Council Members for working with Supervisor Kathryn Barger on reopening the community. All retail shopping centers, swap meets, shared outdoor facilities and religious organizations are now able to reopen while maintaining social distancing practices and requiring the use of face coverings.

Businesses Now Open:
  • Faith-based organizations may resume services, with the number of congregants limited to less than 25% of the building’s capacity, or a maximum of 100 people, whichever is lower.
  • All retail, including those located in indoor and outdoor retail shopping centers may now open for business at 50% capacity.
  • Flea markets, swap meets and drive-in movie theaters may resume operations.
  • Pools, hot tubs and saunas that are in a multi-unit residence or part of a homeowners association may now open.
  • Shared outdoor facilities and recreational activities including golf courses, tennis courts, shooting ranges, community gardens, and bike parks.

Tuesday, Supervisor Barger applied for a variance to move forward in phased reopening and align the County with the State’s public health order. We are hopeful to hear more information today.

As we work towards reopening, we are proud to announce the launch of our new Open for Business portal. The website will allow businesses to share details about their establishments including their hours of operation, as well as any temporary business modifications such as offering delivery or take-out/curbside services. The website is free and business owners can update the information on their own.

Public Meetings
During the Council Meeting Tuesday, City Council approved the disposition strategy of three single-family residences that were purchased and rehabilitated by the Lancaster Housing Authority.

The rehabilitation of these properties helps to eliminate blight and provide affordable home-ownership for families.

The sale of the homes should yield approximately $675,000 for the Housing Authority.
