Greetings from Principal Reyes

Dear Boone Families,

Welcome to our inaugural newsletter, the Boone Barker! My name is Amanda Reyes and I am the principal of Boone Elementary. I saw many of you at our big mascot reveal celebration on Monday and it was thrilling to see everyone’s excitement.

There are so many things to do to prepare for our first school year and I am working hard alongside our PTO to create amazing experiences for our students and families. My goal is to provide exceptional academic opportunities for your children while ensuring that they create memories that they carry with them for the rest of their lives. I am currently interviewing applicants for my leadership team and soon I will begin hiring our teaching staff. Our staff will be comprised of a minimum of 40% current Highland Park educators and will provide outstanding instruction that inspires a love of learning and continues to provide the academic excellence that Highland Park exemplifies.

As the fifth elementary school in Highland Park ISD, Boone will be like the other four schools in its offerings. We will have Music, PE, Art, and Spanish in our Specials rotation. We have a beautiful science lab where students will experience weekly hands-on learning with their science curriculum. We will offer special programs like TAG and Take Flight as well as Special Education services that meet our students’ needs. In other words, Boone will be an excellent place for your children to learn, grow, and thrive just like their current campuses.

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you and your precious children in the coming months. I am happy to answer any questions you have as we go on this journey together.

In December, our future Boone students voted on our mascot and we had so much fun unveiling the winner on Monday night! We are proud to be the Boone Bulldogs , and excited about our school colors, light blue and gold . Thank you to everyone who came and made it such a fun night! Click here to see more pictures!

Orders can be placed until Friday, January 24 ^th at http://boonepto.square.site . All items will be delivered by mid-February so you can start showing your excitement for Boone!

FAQs of the Week

Why does Boone have a PTO instead of a PTA? The difference between the Boone PTO and the other HPISD PTAs is only in name, not in function. There is a national PTA (Parent Teacher Association) which requires anyone using the name “PTA” to pay dues and abide by their national rules and bylaws. All of HPISD’s other PTAs were founded and named prior to the existence of the National organization, so they are still able to use the name “PTA” without being subject to the National PTA. However, for our organization to operate like all of the other PTAs in the district, it is necessary to remain independent and thus be called a PTO rather than a PTA. PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization.

What can I do to financially support Boone now? The best way to support Boone in the short term is to support your current school's fundraisers. Hyer and UP both have auctions coming up in February, and all of our PTAs have generously pledged to contribute to the Boone PTO. However, all of our schools need to meet this year's fundraising goals, so please continue to support your current school! There will be more opportunities to financially support Boone coming soon.

Kindergarten Roundup will be held in late February. The date and time will be announced soon, so stay tuned!

Thank you to everyone who made the mascot reveal possible. Thank you to Jon Dahlander, Emily Conklin & Edward Chalupa from the HPISD Communications department for all of their creative ideas and help making the skit happen. Our HPHS Scotsmen were the most amazing mascots and our HPMS Ambassadors were incredibly helpful greeters. Thank you to Andrea King for helping with all of the planning and to Tara Cosgrove for designing our first ever t-shirt, yard sign and button. Thanks to Tara, Amy Hefton, Stacey Stoller, and Jane Butler for helping with the spirit pop-up shop. And a huge thanks to our special guests HPISD Trustee Lee Michaels and Mr. & Mrs. Michael M. Boone for being there to make the ceremony extra special. Bravo!
