Freshman Retreat

Beginning in January, the doors will open for the Justin-Siena community to the new Zeller Center for Student Engagement. This significant renovation reflects the school’s dedication to supporting its growing student body and enhancing the educational experience. Previously leased for 15 years by the Napa School of Music, the Zeller Center has been transformed to reclaim valuable space, increase classroom availability, and improve operational efficiency.

The new facility will become the central hub for student life, housing the Principal’s office, Dean of Students, Registrar, and related operations. Serving as the gateway to academics and student life, it will encompass Lasallian Student Life which integrates faith, service, and community, along with the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, and the Lasallian Education Access Program (LEAP). By centralizing these essential services, the Zeller Center will foster a cohesive, supportive environment that enhances students’ overall experience.

"We are excited to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the new Zeller Center for Student Engagement, a milestone that underscores our commitment to enhancing the student experience at Justin-Siena,” says Principal Joe Welling. “This transformation allows us to create a centralized space that brings together academic and student life services, providing our students with greater support, resources, and opportunities for growth. The Zeller Center for Student Engagement is not only a physical space, but also a reflection of our Lasallian values, where faith, service, and community come together to shape the future of our students. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this new center will have on our students, faculty, and the entire Justin-Siena community."

Thank you Justin-Siena for coming together to adopt 65 families with 156 children from the following organizations: Abode, Catholic Charities, Puertas Abiertas, NVUSD, Catholic Charities, Napa County, and Agape. We collected over $8,000 in gift cards, along with toys, clothing, and blankets for all.

ALLHEART Highlights: The Arts

For many in our community, Christmas really begins to feel like Christmas when concert season arrives. Our Instrumental and Choral class performers presented warm and upbeat selections that ushered in the holidays and brought light to the close of our year.

Theatre in Production student Eliza Wicks '26 was busy at work directing beginning Theatre students Sophia D’Antilio '28 and Jordan Sagehorn '28 in a scene for their final exam.

Graphic Design scholars took a look in the mirror for their annual self-portrait assignment.

Our Dance scholars stole the show at the city's annual Day of Dance and Cheer celebration held at Napa High School with their performance of "Skin and Bones."

Inside the Art Studio

Monica Leon Marmol ‘28

You recently completed the Sacred Heart Mandala in Studio Art. Can you describe what it means to you?

In my Sacred Heart art project, the butterfly symbolizes personal transformation and growth. Then, the fire stands for wisdom, knowledge, and power. The cross represents my faith in God, with roses representing loyalty and spiritually. The wings reflect free spirit and liberty. Lastly, the color pink is my favorite color because it signifies love and compassion.

Christian Scripture Nativity

Students were tasked to create a nativity scene that incorporates both their own culture and the story of the birth of Jesus. This art was intended to communicate what they would like to keep in mind this upcoming Christmas season.

“I would like to keep in mind the element of family. My family is a family of three, just like in my nativity scene. I feel like there can be a ton of overwhelming feelings during this season with material items, but what really matters is those who surrounded you. When you are surrounded by those you love most, everything else fades out. In my art, I have Jesus, Joseph, and Mary. This reminds me of my little family.”

“To never let go of the child in me, that loved to set up the nativity set each year. I empathize with this by showing a little ghost me playing with the angel, which was my favorite character. It shows me enjoying little me’s young playfulness.”

“I would like to keep in mind inclusivity. I am emphasizing this in my art by putting two different cultures together as well as having kings, shepherds, children, and animals huddled together to see Jesus Christ. Inclusivity especially resonates with me because I am part Filipino and part Italian and for holidays like Christmas, my family does an amazing job at implementing both cultures in our meals and sharing those different traditions.”

Athletics

With a strong returning core of players, girls basketball has gone 5-0 including winning the Championship of the REIBT @ Healdsburg High School. Next up for the team will be hosting the JS Christmas Classic Tournament which will feature some of Northern California's best programs.

Our defending league and section champion boys basketball team secured a tournament win vs. a quality Miramonte squad. After wrapping up finals, they will head to the Christian Brothers Classic playing three fellow Brothers' schools in an event hosted by De La Salle High School.

Wrestling is competing hard over the course of a tough slate of league matches and weekend tournaments. They return to VVAL action against local rival Napa on January 2.

Looking to again make a run at NCS playoffs, girls soccer is coming off a 7-1 thrashing of St. Helena en route to a 2-2 start to their season. The team plays Will C. Wood during the Christmas holiday.

Boys soccer has been busy playing a jam-packed preseason schedule. They picked up a key win over St. Helena and stand ready for upcoming home matches vs. Cloverdale and St. Vincent de Paul.

What better time to recognize our four fall sport North Coast Scholastic Champions than finals week!

Pennants are awarded each season to the top 3 academic teams in their respective NCS division.

Congrats to the following programs!

Boys Cross Country (3.76 GPA)

Girls Cross Country (3.83 GPA)

Cheer (3.59 GPA)

Football (3.45)

While our other teams did not win Scholastic Championships, we still do want to recognize their strong work in the classroom as they earned the following cumulative and unweighted GPA's during the 1st quarter grading period.

Girls Golf (3.73), Girls Tennis (3.84), Volleyball (3.69), Girls Water Polo (3.79), and Boys Water Polo (3.53).

Congratulations to all of our teams for being excellent Student-Athletes!

Building Community

In November, Justin-Siena students had the opportunity to engage in two transformative retreats focused on leadership, inclusivity, and community building. The Affinity Group Retreat centered on developing leadership skills for social change. Students explored how to transform clubs into student-led movements while building a leadership community rooted in social justice. Guest speaker Alex Lalama, a community organizer from San Francisco Rising, led workshops on building social justice and the impact of historic global student protests, inspiring students to consider their roles in creating meaningful change.

Later in the month, the Sophomore Retreat provided students with time for reflection, prayer, and community-building. Sessions focused on fostering an inclusive, Lasallian Catholic environment through intentional dialogue and connection. Workshops and reflections led by student leaders explored topics such as the power of language in building or breaking community, and the relationship between individual identity and larger community culture. Together, these retreats empowered students to lead with purpose, deepening their understanding of leadership, inclusivity, and their roles within a faith-centered community.

Thank you for making BravesUnited a tremendous success! Across the board, our participating programs reached their goals, and over $73,000 was raised!
