Senior Lawn

Where Generations Gather and Memories Take Root

In the summer of 1969, before decades of Justin-Siena tradition to lean on, a small group of dedicated students and parents from Justin High School’s very first graduating class took on something remarkable. With determination, teamwork, and a lot of elbow grease, they transformed a simple expanse of dirt and grass into something far more meaningful. That blank canvas became the foundation of what we now know as Senior Lawn—a place created by community, for community.

Nestled just north of the Br. Bede Center (BBC), Senior Lawn has quietly witnessed generations of students pass through its open space. For seniors especially, it has been a cherished familiar part of daily life. Students have gathered here between classes to laugh, talk, and recharge. Lunches have been shared with friends, notes reviewed under open skies, and the special moments taken to reflect during their final season of high school. Moments spent on Senior Lawn are woven into the rhythm of senior year and form the memories students will carry far beyond their days at Justin-Siena.

Today, Senior Lawn continues to thrive as a place of connection and belonging. Under the leadership of the Senior Class Council and Class Moderator, Mrs. Bartalotti, the lawn is alive with laughter and meaningful milestones. It hosts beloved traditions such as Fall Fest, where seniors bob for apples and enjoy apple cider donuts; and Friends Day, when senior parents volunteer their time to warm bodies and souls with coffee, tea, and hot cocoa. This fresh air backdrop for post-Baccalaureate Mass receptions enriches moments filled with pride, gratitude, and reflection.

Notwithstanding its deep significance, Senior Lawn is ready for thoughtful renewal. This year’s Fund-a-Need focuses on revitalizing this cherished space to continue to serve students for generations to come. While addressing longstanding challenges, including ADA accessibility and drainage concerns, this project will enhance the overall comfort, beauty, and functionality of the lawn.

The revitalization will redesign and repave Senior Lawn to create a safe, accessible, and welcoming environment for daily gatherings and special celebrations alike. Landscaping will be reimagined to bring warmth, calm, and visual beauty to a space students return to again and again. New and expanded seating—including redwood tables and alumni memorial benches—will invite students to sit, connect, and linger. Umbrellas for shade and soft overhead lights will further transform the lawn into an inviting place in which to slow down and savor the moment. This project is more than a renovation; it is Justin-Siena's invitation for our seniors to gather with intention, to build community, and to create memories to last a lifetime.

Happy National School Counseling Week!

Our counselors work tirelessly to make sure our Justin-Siena students are noticed, named, and known.

Thank you Ms. Sinclair '98, Mr. Flores, Ms. Hefflefinger, Mr. Schmitz '01, Ms. Alvarez, and Ms. Bartalotti for all you do!

Human Physiology scholars took to modeling "Famous Fractures" to better understand the musculoskeletal system. The process involved exploring information about a real injury, building "the break," and modeling the repair!

AP and college prep chemistry scholars recently turned up the heat to study the power of combustion. Scholars worked on identifying metals by the light they emit and measuring the energy stored in your favorite snacks.

Congratulations to our Science Bowl squad that won three contests, turning in their most impressive showing in five seasons!

We are proud to announce that Justin-Siena has earned a place on the AP® School Honor Roll for the 2024-25 school year! Next year's

December Students of the Month

Eliza Wicks '26

Theatre Direction

Teacher James Thomas Bailey writes this about Eliza:

“Eliza is an Honors Theatre student at Justin-Siena. Although she has participated as an actress, a dancer, and a technician, where she has really claimed the stage is as a director. She is creative, perceptive, and has a skill with language that helps her connect with actors. Eliza is patient and wise beyond her years. This fall, she was the Assistant Director for our ambitious production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and this semester she will be directing her own production, as well as writing and directing for the 24-Hour Plays, for which students must write, rehearse, prepare, and perform a new play in only 24 hours. Eliza is also an excellent student and an accomplished athlete, receiving All-League Honors in water polo.”

Alicia Sandoval Barajas '28

Theatre Production

Teacher James Thomas Bailey writes this about Alicia:

“Alicia has been dedicated to our costume department, serving as our Wardrobe Supervisor and assisting our designer. Not only has she spent countless hours preparing almost 200 costumes for our current musical “Big Fish,” she also supervises the quick changes and organizes the department. Additionally, she brought her talents to our fall production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Alicia is calm, focused, intelligent, hardworking, and we couldn’t be more proud of her.”
