Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day

“We get to come and just be united as one people. Service so often unifies us.”

Our campus was alive on Monday with the gift of service!

Justin-Siena served as home base for a myriad of volunteer projects overseen by local nonprofits including Napa Valley CanDo, Teens Connect, Napa County 4-H, and the League of Women Voters. KTVU FOX 2 news came out to cover both Giulia Baldini ‘27 and Bella Fernandez ‘26, leading the charge behind Los Angeles fire relief efforts. Our friends at Napa Valley 1839 FC will now deliver the collected items to those affected.

The spirit of the day was led by Amara Burris ‘27, who spoke at Congregation Beth Shalom. Touching on the legacy of Dr. King, her experience as a young black woman in the Napa Valley, and concluding with a call for courage to create and live out your identity and your values, Amara was followed by Blanca Huijon, Executive Director of Puertas Abiertas; and Ken Ehrman, spokesperson for the Napa Valley Workforce Housing Community Project.

Afternoon activities centered around a handful of coaches sitting alongside many of our male athletes discussing the importance of building healthy team cultures, and creating spaces and role models for our boys to develop in their sports. Led by renowned speaker and life coach, Clay Rojas, they reflected on their hopes, fears, and aspirations.

In the evening, Clay and his team co-sponsored a Unity Symposium with our Friday Night Live Club. With the objective of fostering a culture of unity and inclusivity rooted in Lasallian values, the symposium guided students to be not only educated, but empowered to become compassionate, socially responsible leaders who embrace diversity and advocate for justice.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of our beloved CRAB FEST, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this milestone with you!

We're bringing back classic favorites like the Wine Wall, Bubble Bar, and the thrilling Cake Frenzy, along with a familiar Justin-Siena face as our auctioneer--we see you Coach Andy Bettencourt!

To make this year even more special (along with crab of course), we’re introducing a revamped menu by Chef Juan Zavala. And check out the enhanced perks to elevate the sponsorship experience.

Whether you're here for the nostalgia or eager to explore the new details, CRAB FEST 2025 promises to be an unforgettable evening for everyone!

ALLHEART Highlights

Now fielding four teams, our Robotics scholars have been hard at work! Most recently "Team A" made their way to the round of eight in a mid-January competition.

Sophomore English students are traveling across the pond and across time! College Prep English 10 classes are studying Macbeth, exploring the qualities that make a good leader. Honors English 10 are delving into Pride and Prejudice, adventuring in a world of high stakes relationship drama!

Let's hear it for the Class of 2025! To date, 99% of our seniors have applied to college! Acceptance season is here, and 70% have already been accepted to at least one school.

In anticipation of our All Saints Day Liturgy, sophomore religion scholars created symbolic square art to represent the stories and images of various saints from the Catholic tradition.

Showing a little love to our Science Department. Just because!

Athletics

Coming off a key VVAL win against American Canyon, the boys soccer team under fourth year coach Brandon Hernandez '15 is looking to make a North Coast Section playoff push. The team has fared well within their NCS division posting a 4-2-1 record.

In search of a VVAL three-peat, boys basketball is off to a hot start in league with a 4-2 record. Having graduated several impact players from last season's NCS champion squad, a host of new faces are stepping up under first year coach Corey Battle.

Also in his first year as head coach is Steven Giovannoni '89 who has our girls soccer squad again looking to make a bit of noise heading to the back half of VVAL play. Starting with last night's 14-0 win over American Canyon, the team heads into their remaining seven games with a strong shot at earning their way back into the NCS playoffs for the fourth straight season.

Wrestling has several grapplers leading the way under second year head coach Rob Cohee. Coming off a standout freshman campaign, sophomore Jayden Wanalista is red-hot, having earned wins in four of his past five matches. He projects to again show well come VVAL and NCS tourney time. On the girls' side, Brynna Cohee '25 recently became the first ever girls wrestler to notch her 100th win! While also being only the 4th ever wrestler period to reach the century mark, Cohee appears well on her way leaving her career on a high mark.

Girls basketball is well-positioned for their second straight league title under coach Andy Bettencourt '02. Undefeated in league, the team owns impressive state (#66) and NCS (#8) ranks thus far. Individually, reigning VVAL MVP and Napa County Player of the Year, Jordan Washington '25 recently grabbed her 1,000th career rebound. For her career she has impressively tallied over 1,000 points and rebounds!

Congrats Brynna!

Congrats Jordan!

From Digital to Drawing: Social Justice Issues

“Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression.” (Isaiah 1:17)

"My family is Mexican so I can relate and it’s something that was taught heavily in elementary and middle school."

"I believe everyone should have the right to an education because it creates opportunities."

"I deeply respect and value animals and the earth itself. I just want to bring more awareness of our impact on the environment and how that ultimately affects us."

Closing Prayer: Moments of Awe

Seniors in the Faith in Film, Media, and Literature course were asked: "What moments of 'great awe' have you experienced recently? When do you or have you seen the divine in everyday life?"

"My most recent moment of great awe was when I drove up Dry Creek while it was lightly raining. The mist created by the rain, combined with the grassy hills and creek along the road, created a beautiful landscape. I see the divine in nature. I believe there is a higher being who intentionally and thoughtfully created the beautiful world we live in."

"Recently I experienced a moment of great awe when I came across a sunset a day or two after Christmas. I was walking by the window when I noticed a bright light sitting over the valley. I thought I was going insane because I had never seen a dark orange orb of light like that before. When I realized it was just the sun setting, my mind was blown. I have never seen a sunset as beautiful as that one; it looked like it was from another world. Moments like these remind me of how beautiful the world can be if we just take time to look outside of ourselves."

"I’ve been awed by nature and space. We are so connected to these things through body, mind, and soul. I think that’s an example of a greater creator and everything and everyone being connected. For example, I recently saw photos comparing those things to the internal workings of our body. They were so similar I felt the power from this."

"Over break, my parents and I took the back roads to Santa Rosa. My moment of great awe happened as we were coming down the hill and the sun was shining through the trees down on all the houses. The beauty of the sun reflecting on the houses made me truly appreciate what surrounds me. It felt as if there's another world outside the chaos and busy nature of Napa."

“I experienced a moment of great awe in a recent sunset. Amidst all the chaos happening around me, the sight seemed to slow everything down. Its golden glow, lighting up the sky with its very last breath, reminded me that there is still hope for tomorrow. Again, the sun will set with all the memories made that day, and rise with new adventures to explore - a truly magnificent sight. Every sunrise is a gift, and every new day is a blessing."
