Reflections from
Deacon Victoria
For the kingdom of God is not food and drink but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Romans 14:17)

Dangerous heat conditions. Fires raging. Crops failing. Inflation rising. Violence raging. Anxiety rising. Wherever we turn, there seems to be one more thing to worry about. It can be overwhelming. It’s tempting to despair and wonder where is the God in all this? It’s easy to be blinded by the things that are not right. Easy to not see the things that are an expression of God’s loving presence in our lives.

Yet, I see the presence of God here at St. John’s. I see a community that welcomes the stranger and invites them to join in. I see families who seek healing and comfort. I see a long list of loved ones for whom we pray because we trust that God’s presence will provide strength, courage, and hope. I see people who are willing to learn and face the truths about our country’s history of racism, so that they can discern how to right these wrongs. I see seekers who desire to learn more from Scripture and to entertain theological reflections that may open new vistas of understanding. I see a passion for serving God in many ways in the church and in the community. I see a zeal for justice, particularly about affordable housing and homelessness. I see the kingdom of God.

Thanks be to God!

Ways to donate:
  • Submit a check, written to St. John's Episcopal Church and write FAN DRIVE in the description field at the bottom of the check.

Other offerings will include a series titled “A Walk Through the Bible” led by Fr. David Beer and another series about angels in the Bible. More details to follow.
Baptism of Iris and Dayana

On Sunday, July 17th, St. John’s celebrated the baptism of Iris Marcela Hernandez and Dayana Arroyo. Iris’ parents are Maria Angie Hernandez and Alfonso Hernandez. Maria celebrated her Quinceañera at St. John’s 7 years ago. Maria’s mother Maria Nuñez has been an active leader from the 1 o’clock service for many years. Alfonso has been the musician for the 1 o’clock service for several years. Iris will celebrate her first birthday on the day of her baptism. Dayana Arroyo is Maria Nuñez’ granddaughter.

Our Greater Community
On July 11th, 2022, the 80th General Convention approved the merger of the Diocese of North Texas with the Diocese of Texas. The move came about after months of discernment.

On June 9th, 2022, The Texas Diocesan Council had voted overwhelmingly in favor of reunion. The North Texas Diocesan Council then voted unanimously on June 18th to reunite.

The Rt. Rev. C. Andrew Doyle said, “The people of the Diocese of Texas warmly welcome our siblings home. This reunification process is very exciting, and we are elated about the extraordinary possibilities that come with becoming part of this region of Texas. The Episcopal Church in North Texas will bring great perspectives and divine gifts to our diocese, and as one, we will reach and bring more people to God. At the end of the day, that is our purpose.”
