2023 Programming Kicks off with Fostering Effective & Inclusive Feedback
The PLDIC held our first event of 2023 on January 18. Sixty people attended the highly interactive and thought-provoking session led by DEI expert and professional coach Paula Edgar. During the workshop, Paula facilitated a conversation about feedback challenges and strategies to overcome those barriers to effective and inclusive feedback. The participants worked in small groups to discuss real life scenarios and then, spent the last hour of the workshop in a hackathon! Paula divided the attendees into teams, each with a particular feedback challenge to tackle, and the teams issue-spotted, then problem-solved – ultimately developing innovative solutions to provide effective and inclusive feedback. A big thank you to member organization UPMC for hosting our participants. We are eager to see if these solutions get implemented at our member organizations.
Thanks to All Who Attended the PLDIC Members Holiday Party!
The PLDIC held a members holiday party on December 14 at Shortys Pins x Pints featuring duckpin bowling, table shuffleboard, foosball, pinball, vintage arcade games, food and drink, and most importantly, good company. This casual event was a fun opportunity to network, celebrate, and end the year with fellow Coalition members.

Take the LGBTQ+ culture mini-assessment No. 1!
PLDIC has partnered with Hugh Lane Wellness Foundation to make a series of mini-assessments around LGBTQ+ competency available to you as our members. Multiple people within an organization are invited to participate.

The first mini assessment is all about pronouns. Hugh Lane Wellness Foundation created this mini assessment based on real life experiences of transgender/non-binary lawyers in the workplace providing services as well as from feedback of the queer community seeking legal services and trying to find an inclusive workplace.

One of the easiest and most cost-effective action steps you can take to ensure LGBTQ+ inclusivity is to foster pronoun competency. You can show allyship with your co-workers and clients and be a better contributor to your firm/organization’s success with just a few simple words.

This mini assessment is intended to introduce some key considerations related to pronouns. We know that some of you might want to delve deeper. The mini assessment gives you the option to request further information from Hugh Lane Wellness Foundation. Your email will only be used for communication if you specifically request more information. We will keep your individual responses strictly confidential. You can also check them out at www.hughlane.org or email them directly.
PLDIC PICKS
Dolly’s book will give you the psychological tools you will need for the urgent and necessary work of reckoning with our past. It is a revolutionary, evidence-based guide for developing resilience and grit to confront our whitewashed history and build a better future.

As former PLDIC speaker Kenji Yoshino says, “This book is required reading for all patriots who love their country enough to see its wounds – and heal them.”
By the way, Kenji has a new book coming out, too:
A practical, shame-free guide for navigating conversations across our differences at a time of rapid social change.
