Young Professionals Advisory Board:
Apply by May 12!

The PLDIC seeks emerging attorney leaders to apply for its inaugural Young Professionals Advisory Board (YPAB). Qualified applicants should be attorneys who have been practicing 10 years or less, are employees of a PLDIC member organization, and have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. YPAB Members will be informed of their selection by the end of May 2023 and the first YPAB Meeting will take place in July 2023.

On April 19, close to 70 PLDIC members and guests attended our Spring Members Meeting at the Carnegie Museum of Art’s Hall of Architecture. In this hallowed space, attendees were able to make new friends, connect with old colleagues, hear the results of our Members Survey, learn how to get involved in PLDIC programs and committees, and recommit to our mission. Special thanks to Dr. Knapp and Gina Winstead from the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh for welcoming our members!

We are seeking attorney mentors for our revamped mentoring program in partnership with the ACBA Summer Clerkship Program. This summer, following a speed-networking matching event in early June, mentors and mentees will be invited to participate together in events such as Pride Night at PNC Park, SCP Night at the Theatre. Seeking the Next PLDIC TALI Scholars |

Scholarship recipients must be admitted to either TALI program and be employed by a PLDIC member organization. Interested PLDIC applicants should indicate their interest in the scholarship on the TALI application. Recipients will be notified after being accepted into a TALI program. Baker Donelson Shareholder Marcus Maples will present to PLDIC member leaders about how to think about diversity and inclusion efforts more strategically. As the architect of his firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Compact, Marcus will relay his firsthand knowledge on what makes a successful DEI plan and how to avoid the five common mistakes law firms and legal departments make when it comes to DEI strategy.

Take the LGBTQ+ culture mini-assessment #4! |
The PLDIC has partnered with Hugh Lane Wellness Foundation to make a series of mini-assessments around LGBTQ+ competency available to you as our members. Multiple people within an organization are invited to participate. This mini assessment is all about gender transition in the workplace. Hugh Lane Wellness Foundation created this mini assessment based on real life experiences of transgender/nonbinary lawyers in the workplace providing services as well as from feedback of the queer community seeking legal services and trying to find an inclusive workplace. There are some basics all workplaces can implement to be supportive of transgender/nonbinary persons who express the desire to transition at work. Transition journeys and ways to affirm someone's identity can vary greatly. However, your organization can create a positive experience and an inclusive culture that is prepared to embrace differences with ease. Take the assessment. |

PLDIC members are invited to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in a party thrown by the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The event will feature business owners and professionals from the Pittsburgh Region in a one of a kind networking event celebrating Cinco de Mayo with amazing hors d’oeuvres, drinks and music at the offices of Burns White. PLDIC members can use the member discount code “Fiesta” dropping the price from $49 to $30 listed on the sign up website.

Speed Networking Event

This membership outreach event invites diverse attorneys and legal professionals who are not currently affiliated with the ACBA to learn more about the bar association. The event provides an opportunity for these individuals to meet and interact with diverse members of the Pittsburgh Legal Community. |
