At our fall members meeting, Evan Parker and Kathleen Fredriksen of Parker Analytics outlined the elements of a credible diversity initiative:
1. Concrete Goals:
What will the initiative do
?
2. Set Accountability:
Who is responsible for the outcome
?
3. Track progress:
How will you measure progress/return on investment
?
4. Communications Plan:
Based on the goals, how did we do
?
In coming issues of
The Bridge
, we will address each of the goals we have set for the program, talk about why they are important, tell you who will be responsible for meeting each goal, and outline how we intend to track our progress.
In the meantime, here is a snapshot of each of the concrete goals we have set for the program:
1. To ensure that all members are equally fluent on issues relating to the retention of diverse lawyers and have the tools to address them.
2. To expand the number of individuals throughout the Pittsburgh legal community who are engaged in the inclusion conversation.
3. To train a cohort of Diversity Allies, certified by the PLDIC, who will have the knowledge and skills to contribute to the environment of inclusion in their firms and law departments.
