Events and Announcements

Welcome our new

Parish

Administrator

I am Maria Hernandez, but I'm known as Maria Angie. I am excited to be St. John’s parish administrator. I have been part of the Episcopal church since I was young and have been a member of St. Johns for more than 12 years. I look forward to this new journey and blessed to have been offered this amazing opportunity. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas for 22 years now. I married my husband Alfonso in 2020, and our beautiful daughter Iris Marcela was born in 2021. We are expecting our newest member of the family in March of 2023.

Before this amazing opportunity I attended College of Health Care Professions and became a Certified Medical Assistant. This experience has shown me my passion in helping and supporting others. I love the community we have at St. Johns, and I want to support it so it can live out its mission: to be a community of God’s people who heal brokenness, build bridges, and exemplify borderless kindness.

Thank you, Maria Angie

Serving Christ

In All Persons

A few members of our church have been helping a young man who was homeless. We’re very happy that he is moving into a new apartment in about 2 weeks. We are helping him with some things for his new apartment. We already found a couch, kitchen items (dishes, silverware, pots, and pans), and a kitchen table and chairs

We could use your help with getting a few more things for his new home. We're still searching for a dresser, bed (full or queen), sheets, bedspread, blanket, bath towel set, kitchen towels, hangers, 2 bar stools, and other things to make his new apartment feel like home. He would also like a tv and laptop. His favorite colors are blue and black.

Cash donations will be converted into a Walmart gift card to shop for any other items he needs. Please designate "Darius" on your donation. We will also need access to a truck to move the furniture items.

Please contact Sue Burek at 512-470-7162 or Paula Foy to coordinate any donations.

Welcome Luis and Marie Rivas

Luis is a Middler (second-year student) at Seminary of the Southwest here in Austin, TX. He is married to Marie, and they live in North Austin with their 2-year-old poodle, Bear. Aside from being a seminarian, Luis is a craft coffee aficionado, a tech enthusiast, and when it is not too hot outside, an enjoyer of hiking trails and disc golf.

Before going to seminary, Luis worked as the Youth Minister at St. Michael’s in West Austin, where he first worked with Mother Minerva. “I am excited to join St. John’s community and experience a multi-cultural, neighborhood parish. I believe the future of the church is as an expression of local community-building and as reflective of the growing diversity in our society, so I am honored to walk alongside St. John’s for the next two years and learn from the ways in which this community embodies these two characteristics.”
