Middle School Spring Atheltics
The Tri-County League (governing body for middle school sports) has announced that the first date to practice/tryout will be May4 th . The first date to play will be May 13 th . Games or contests lost in April will not be made up. Please be aware this could change,as this is a fluid state of affairs. Also the school district may have their own restrictions based on the local circumstances. The website will be kept updated as this situation unfolds. We are requesting at this time that if your son or daughter is thinking about participating in a spring sport, that you go on the district website and click on the athletics tab and fill out the paperwork. This is in hopes that when and if we get up and running we have all the necessary paperwork ready to go. Please stay safe and active through this time. Remember all outside school facilities are closed. I can be contacted at [email protected] with any question.
Update Regarding Professional Development/Curriculum Planning Days
In order to best support teachers and their ability to plan meaningful curriculum and online learning for students, the district has decided that Wednesdays in April will be a day for staff to engage in professional development. Teachers WILL provide a few independent activities for students, but will otherwise be limited in communication with students and families. We appreciate your understanding and support.
Teachers will use April 1st, April 8th, April 15th, and April 22nd to continue their planning of meaningful curriculum and online learning.
What will Wednesdays look like for students, families, and teachers?
Students and families: Students at the middle level will be asked to maintain an academic mindset on these days, but teachers will be asking them to work as independently (and off screen) as possible. Examples of this may include: independent reading, independent projects related to reading, writing, math, or science. In addition, students may use this time catch up on any work they have not yet completed,

Teachers: As at the high school and elementary schools, teachers at the middle level will spend their day planning in PLCs to continue to provide meaningful curriculum and online learning for students. Additionally, teachers may use this time to meet with students on an as needed basis at their discretion.

How to Calm Your Nerves with Yoga with a Ten Minute Yoga Class for Teens with Yoga Ed. for ages 13-18
Don’t forget to take time to just breathe and relax throughout your day. One of my favorite ways to try to relax when I am stressed is yoga.

The great thing about yoga is it can be done anywhere, it takes little to none for equipment as well as experience.

There are so many great opportunities to try it!

MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR
Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you know, media coverage of the corona virus is widespread, and both the global and national situations are rapidly evolving. The intent of this letter is to provide parents and guardians with tips to help your children continue learning at home.

Stay in touch with your child’s teachers.

  • Many teachers at SRMS are offering lessons online (virtual learning). Review assignments from the teachers and help your child establish a reasonable pace for completing the work.

  • If you face technology or connectivity issues, or if your child is having a hard time completing assignments, let the teachers know.

Consider the needs and adjustment required for your child’s age group .

  • The transition to being at home will be different for each child in your home: preschoolers, K-5, middle school students, and high school students will all have different expectations from their teachers.

  • Talk to your child about expectations and how they are adjusting to learning at home versus at school.

Create a schedule and routine for learning at home.

  • Have consistent wakeup times and bedtimes, Monday through Friday.

  • Structure and schedule the day for learning each class subject, free time, meals and snacks, and physical activity.

  • Allow flexibility in the schedule—it’s okay to adapt based on your day however, many children benefit from consistency.

Help your child stay active.

  •  Encourage your child to play outdoors—it’s great for physical and mental health. Take a walk with your child or go on a bike ride.

  • Use indoor activity breaks (e.g., stretch breaks, dance breaks) throughout the day to help your child stay healthy and focused.

Help your child stay socially connected.

  • Reach out to friends and family via phone or video chats.

  • Write cards or letters to family members they may not be able to visit.
