Classroom Highlight: Art

By Nancy Shelledy

Lower School students recently finished creating their Self Portrait Collages and explored texture using a variety of materials and processes. Students used felt and fleece to create their hair, markers misted with water or watercolor for the portrait backgrounds, and a combination of crayons, colored pencils, and construction paper for their eyes, noses, and mouths. Once completed, Lower Schoolers practiced sharing their artwork with their class and giving one another compliments.

Coffee and Convo

Franklin Center's Coffee and Convo events provide a fun way to get to know other parents or caregivers in our community. Held on the second Friday of each month after drop off (around 8am), parents and guests can stop in for coffee and breakfast treats (often made by our students in the culinary science class) to mingle and get to know one another better. Events are held in our beautiful community room at Franklin Center.

Letters From Leaders

Kim Strandemo, Franklin Academy Principal

Hello Franklin Families! I am excited to share some exciting updates about Franklin Academy with you.

I would like to introduce our new staff members: Kristen, Tobias, Sena, Jazz, SueAnn, Scott, and Allie! We are so excited to be welcoming these new teachers and BTs as they settle into their new roles. We are ecstatic to be fully staffed in our classrooms and are looking forward to providing an elevated level of education for our students.

We are unveiling a new organizational structure for the behavior department, which is now housed inside of therapy services. This new structure will allow for better allocation of staff resources to our students, and provide advancement opportunities within the department so we can train and develop the fantastic staff members that we already have.

Turning from staff to student affairs, I was fortunate enough to join our middle school students as they visited the Hoċokata Ti Cultural Center in Shakopee. It was a great learning experience for our students, who got to learn about our region's rich indigenous culture and history. I am also happy to report that the MyHealth lessons in middle and high school are going very well, and we are grateful to be able to cover these important topics with our students.

As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or comments!

Best,

-Kim
