Higher Education has always been a hallmark of the United Methodist Church. The value of resources for continued learning and higher education is fundamental to United Methodism. In keeping with our tradition of supporting higher learning, the Rappahannock River District (RRD) of the United Methodist Church has created a Student Scholarship Program.  The program is maintained and administered by the RRD and is not connected with any other United Methodist board, agency, or entity.

Scholarships will be awarded to applicants who meet the program criteria as funding allows. Persons eligible to apply are those who are attending or who plan to attend a college, seminary or trade school and are members of a United Methodist Church on the Rappahannock River District. Please see attached guidelines for more details.

AFTON UMC HOMECOMING, SUNDAY, JUNE 2

A GATHERING OF FRIENDS

Afton United Methodist Church is pleased to announce our Homecoming Celebration to be held on Sunday, June 2 nd this year! A wonderful day is planned, filled with the Word of God, song and praise, old friends, new friends, and a wonderful Sunday dinner.
The day will begin at 10:30 AM when members and friends of Afton and Fairfields gather in the Afton sanctuary for a joint worship service. The message will be delivered by our special guest pastor, the Reverend John Jones. Pastor Jones is a former pastor of Afton and Fairfields. We are delighted to welcome the Praise Band, from Ebenezer UMC in Oldhams, Virginia, who will lend their special talents to our worship service.
Immediately following the worship service, we will be treated to an old-fashioned home cooked meal, reminiscent of days gone by. There will be an amazing abundance of down-home tastings, as only Chef Lennie can prepare. The main dishes will, of course, be accompanied by tempting side dishes and desserts lovingly prepared by members of Afton and Fairfields church families.
Following all the worship, and all the eating, and all the fellowship with renewed acquaintances, who will be “a sight for sore eyes”, to be sure, we will be treated to a musical performance by Tangier Praise Band. It is a blessing to have this group travel across the bay to share their amazing talents. This will surely be a wonderful blessed time that we do not want anyone to miss! All are invited, so please come and bring all of your friends, old and new. Afton UMC is located at 5130 Hacks Neck Road in Ophelia. Please praise God and mark your calendars!
