SCHOOL COUNCIL CORNER >
ELECTIONS FOR TWO NEW COUNCIL MEMBERS: MAY 30 The Pierce School Council will be holding elections for two new Council members on May 30th. Please consider running and contact council co-chair, Karen Sutton at kehsutton@gmail.com for information.
The Pierce School Council is an advisory board, consisting of parents, teachers, and the principal. It helps identify students' educational needs and school goals. Council meets once a month during the academic calendar to discuss current issues, policy, and school-related affairs introduced by the Principal. This is a structured volunteer opportunity, with a limited commitment of time, with a total of eight Council meetings over the course of the school year. Meetings typically run an hour to an hour and a half.
The Pierce School Council is comprised of teacher representatives, parent representatives, and the principal. Specifically, the Council:
- Makes recommendations to the Principal about the development, implementation, and assessment of the curriculum.
- Assists in reviewing the annual school budget.
- Helps formulate an annual school improvement plan to improve student performance and meet designated goals.
- Coordinates the Principal Forum events held throughout the school year
This is a vibrant, active council and we encourage all Pierce parents to consider running for these two positions. _______________________________________ |

IN-HOME PRESCHOOL (Brookline Village)Pierce parent and certified early childhood teacher opened local preschool in home in the fall of 2011 for children 2.9 years and up. Please visit website for details or contact Kimberly directly at (617) 955-6653. ____________________________________ HOUSE SWAP LATE JULY/EARLY AUGUST LONDON-BOSTON We would like to exchange our four-bedroom house in northeast London for a home(s) in Massachusetts for two weeks this summer, from approximately July 21 to August 5. Our comfortable family home is located in Stoke Newington, a village in an increasingly hip area of London, with lots of nice shops, cafes, and parks, about 20 minutes door-to-door from the Olympics site. We have a young cat and would like to find someone who'd be happy to feed her once a day. We need to be in Boston for a wedding from July 25th-28th, and our fantasy is to find someone with a home in Boston and a home by the sea, so that we could do one simple swap with our home and their home(s)! Possible arrangements might be: two weeks in our house in London in exchange for one week in Boston and one week at the beach (long-shot, we realize!); two weeks in London for two weeks by the beach; one week in London for one week in Boston (and we work out the second week separately). If you're interested, please contact Elizabeth Ferry eferry66@gmail.com for more information. _________________________________________
