*NEW*PIERCE ARTS COUNCIL
Fri., 2/10 8:30-9:15am (Grade 3-5); 9:30-10:15am (Grade 6-8)
The Pierce Arts Council presents a performance by celebrated pianist and Berklee College of Music professor George W. Russell, Jr. & Co. The "Clap Your Hands" program features African-American music (spirituals, folk-blues, and gospel), highlighting its profound influence on both musical and political movements throughout our nation's history. Thanks to the donations of parents and community members to the Pierce PTO, the Pierce Arts Council brings age-appropriate, high-quality arts performances to the school to complement learning in the classroom. These performances provide a creative and fun way for students to engage in and learn about arts, science, history, and literature as well as spark conversation around important issues and ideas.

2017 PIERCE ANNUAL CALDECOTT PROGRAM!
Each year, the American Library Association nominates and awards the prestigious Caldecott medal to the best picture book of the year. Pierce students in grades K-3 will be learning about the picture book evaluation process and reviewing and analyzing the top contenders. Students, teachers, and families are encouraged to read as many of our "Caldecott Contenders" as possible before our voting event in late January. Due to  growing enthusiasm for this event, we have decided to replace our Caldecott Night with a Caldecott Day event. Classes will be scheduled to come to the auditorium to take one last look at the "Caldecott Contenders" and vote for their favorite. Check out the list of "Caldecott Contenders" here.
