PTO ANNUAL APPEAL: ONE WEEK DOWN
#piercepride
Raised to date: $5,072/$70,000 goal (7%)
All of our children benefit from the work of the Pierce School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) every day in their classrooms and throughout the year - for  academic, cultural, and community enrichment activities for Pierce students, teachers, and families. No donation is too small! While the PTO will spend more than  $160 per student  for the 2016-2017 school year, any amount you can give is appreciated -- truly. If your family is able to give a bit more, we are delighted to use that extra amount to help subsidize other families.  We're aiming for 100% family participation.   Checks can be made out to "Pierce PTO" and returned to the Appeal bin near the main office. You can also make a secure donation online at   http://www.pierceschoolbrookline.org
Note: All contributions to the Pierce PTO are tax deductible and will be acknowledged with a receipt for tax purposes. The PTO's tax ID number is 35-2197562. Please also consider using your employer's matching grant program.

What did your Pierce PTO spend money on last month?
September is a busy month for PTO dollars! Around 25% of the entire annual budget is spent in September to support purchases of classroom supplies by teachers. New teachers get additional funding that is specifically earmarked to quickly build up their classroom libraries. Teachers are extremely grateful for the support, and students benefit! The PTO also provided funds for new seating in the lobby, a welcome back lunch, lanyards to say thank you to our new and returning teachers, lamination supplies for the entire school, and classroom grants to KKT (for classroom aquarium supplies and fish) and KAB (pencil grips). Stay tuned, each week we will share with you information on how the Pierce PTO makes a difference in your child's school day!

ADHD AND ANXIETY: SHINING A LIGHT ON THE CONFUSION
Thurs., 11/3 7-8:30pm @ Driscoll Elementary School Library, Main floor
Both Anxiety and ADHD can lead to variable behaviors that can be difficult for parents to understand and manage. When children have both ADHD and Anxiety symptoms it becomes even more difficult to recognize the source of their behaviors let alone know what to do about them. Many children who have both are not diagnosed because their behaviors can vary so much based on their environment (for example school vs. home) and demands. This talk by Kira Armstrong PhD, ABPP-CN will help to "shine a light" on the confusion and give parents a better understanding of how anxiety and attention difficulties can present on a daily basis so they can better understand their children.
